Merlin is, by his own admission, a sociopath who did not really care for indivduals (At least before he was imprisoned in Avalon), and was largely responsible for telling Artoria that she shouldn't act like a human being. He also has some lecherous (Or otherwise creepy) nature that made Morgan/Vivian trap him in Avalon. Also, the Whore of Babylon stated that (At least Proto) Merlin is a beast of the planet, and no matter what, seems to release Cath Palug, who either becomes Primate Murder of Beast IV.

Fate's kind of sent the message that what the characters think of themselves isn't necessarily true. And if Merlin never cared for individuals before Avalon, why is one of the reasons given for his imprisonment is that he felt guilty for failing Arturia? Honestly, Merlin's admission sounds more like a lie he tells himself. Especially in comparison to Proto-Merlin, who cares less about people being happy than her own amusement. P.S. I believe the stated reason is that he wanted Fou to see the beauty he saw in Arturia's death and acceptance.

Even without that, Merlin seems like a hard person to deal with, especially if Vivian (Who is the "good fairy" side of Morgan) hated his guts. Even with Fou, no matter how you slice it, sending out the Beast of Gaia is a pretty stupid move (At least in worlds where the Human Order is being censored like in Tsukihime).

But he's nowhere near as bad as Vortigern, who wanted to kill every last human in Britain, and Morgan, who committed inexcusable sins both grand and personal, all for the sake of a petty grudge. Hell, he's not even as bad as Gilgamesh. It just seems silly for characters like Gawain to think that lowly of him when they've met (and in fact are related to) far worse people. As for Cath Plug- ... I have no idea what happens in the Tsukihime side of things. I can't argue either way without an explanation about what Primate Murder's perspective is.

@@KnightofChaosDeck Again, you are right about that. But I don't really think they "hate" him in the sense of genuine anger (Save for Morgan and Castoria, whose experiences aren't the best). I think they just find him really annoying, which is a very fair thought, all things considered. As for Cath Palug's situation, Primate Murder is a VERY bad thing. It is a Beast of Gaia designated to cull humans, and has an advantage against them (Hence the name). It has no human perspective, and thanks to being controlled by Altrouge Brunestud (Who seems to be an ass, from what we know of her), enjoys human blood. So yeah, depending on how far his clairvoyance could see (As he apparently could tell that Artoria's kingdom was doomed to fall from the start), he plays some risky games. Especially if he is aware of how the affirmation of censuring of the Human Order works, since the necessary event for what occurs should have already happened.

I believe Merlin is secretly an enemy. Even Beast VI called Merlin (prototype, but their the same being just different genders) a Beast of the Planet, and Castoria said something very interesting. "If that person (someone immortal (she's talking about Merlin)) was to die at least once, he would have no choice but to change his nature." That is very very sus, hinting that Merlin has an alternative nature. Many people want him dead and find him scary. Beasts are born the progression of Humans, and are the result of their actions. Despite Merlin being half human, he's watched the progression of man, as well as interfered in it many times, inadvertently (or perhaps advertently), bringing destruction/ruin to whosever life or kingdom he interferes with. A Beast of the Planet, is perhaps, a beast born from the spawn of the earth itself, but due to its status as being a part of the Earth itself in some way + the place it is maturing, is not considered a threat to humanity by the counter force. While bearing a human-like sin, trying to protect or show its love for humanity in some way, fashion, or form. Merlin could very well ,unknowingly, be a Juvenile beast.
