I've always pictured Felinids as looking like the Thundercats and considering that Thundercats came out in the same decade as Rogue Trader gives me a personal confirmation that GW was "borrowing" ideas. Felinids weren't officially canonized as a result of someone winning a contest back in the mid-2000s iirc, but yeah, Felinids looking like Thundercats makes a helluva lot more sense than the furry beastmen abominations suggested by TTS or featured in the video...

Alrighty, let me give you how we came to be. Once upon a time, humans thought to make a strain of soldier with animalistic traits that enhance their capabilities. They tried all sorts of things, but due to either poor compatibility, sterility, instability, or psychological issues, nearly every strain failed. Canids nearly worked, but they ended up suicidally loyal. Felines, surprisingly, ended up working. Despite what most people think, cats are loyal. You have to earn that loyalty, though. When the people studying you have partially raised you, that loyalty comes easily, so they were considered a success and a planet seeded with them to produce a viable and sustainable population. But as it turned out, it was rather difficult to get them to listen to a random commander they barely know, so the project fell apart. This is the point where the age of strife hit, isolating these rough genetic experiments on a planet of their own. Eventually, the various strains and experimental lines homogenized into the modern Felinid. And that is the why and how there are cat people in 40K, thank you and good night.
@BlackEpyon9 ай бұрын
You don't need to get them to listen to a commander they barely know, you just need to give him a laser pointer, and have him point it at the enemy. Instinct will take care of the rest.

One of the things that comes to mind is variation. So with the title sugesting that there is a large amount of fur on their bodies, but the kroot said that they looked human, it's stands to reason that there might be a more human like strain with the felinid DNA. So one group looks like a group of furries, while the other's have a more human appearance. It might also stand to reason that the Imperium is selectively breeding them so that the more human traits emerge. This way they will not appear to be similar to beastmen and used as regiments for the guard.

I remember the small text about subhumans appeared in the main book of 7th edition... YES, this guys are canon
@locomotivefaox2 жыл бұрын
My head canon has always been that felinids don’t literally look like anthropomorphic cats but have adaptive features like fur like body hair, claws, elongated ears, fangs, vertical spit eyes etc. That simply evoked feline like connotations in the original humans who contacted them.

It's not they are real part of the lore

Hello there. I don't have much of a problem with Felinids being a genetically engineered sub-species of Humanity. Given that some Terran colonies maintained enough tech and knowledge to do many other things, I have little difficulty believing that at least one had the knowledge and skills to 'adapt' to their world by altering their DNA. As for the claws as long as a forearm... well, it is NOT stated that those claws were actually biological in nature, which leads me to think that the report is an incomplete statement that the felinids use something like Lightning Claws, but a design that attaches to each finger instead, and rather than sheathe them in energy fields, they have the technology to sharpen them to near mono-molecular thin cutting edges. If the gene manipulation was successful enough, then the Felinids would have characteristics of base feline species... speed, stealth, hunting prowess, night vision, silted eyes, hairy bodies, tails for additional balance, perhaps digitgrade (walking on toes and balls of their feet) feet, and the remorselessness of a true feline hunter. All this and more are possible, and even though their exterior would make them look less human, they would still be 'human' overall in their DNA. If this turns out to be an April's Fools episode, then all I can say is the Original Poster chose an interesting topic at the least.

That's a totally fair and valid point regarding the claws, well spotted!

So a race of people like Wolverine from marvel comics?
@internetzenmaster89523 жыл бұрын
Wolverine mixed with the race of cat-people from Thundercats. This whole "oh, they're just walking cats" nonsense died when Grekh pointed out they look like humans. I think a Kroot (especially one like Grekh) would be able to tell the difference between a human and a bipedal feline.
@draochvar96463 жыл бұрын
@@internetzenmaster8952 yea, Kroot aren't as dumb as many think. It is also possible that Felinids are proficient in the use of claw-weapons, similar to the japanese Nekokagi but far more technologically advanced and Grek simply mistook them for biological Claws.

Felidaes main characteristic is that they've noticable claws, even if not always retractible, so I suppose that no matter their appearance this is a feature they can't skip.

I choose to interpret Felinids as slighly smaller people with fluffy animal ears and tails with an exaggerated love for nature just so Wildstar Aurins can live on in spirit somewhere else.

This is almost as weird a bit of lore as that story from second edition days which had an ork trapped in a prison cell for a few weeks, lose the fungal part of his anatomy, grrow actual skin over time and get mistaken as an ogryn and released by accident thinking the ork had escaped and trapped a well meaning ogryn in there in his place.
