Expressing dB by itself, with no reference, doesn’t mean anything, and it isn’t limited to sound. It can be any energy phenomenon…such as radio waves and light…even X rays and gamma rays. For instance dBm is referenced to milliwatts and is usually used in radio propagation and interference studies. While dBA is used for sound. To say that dB is for just for measuring sound is equivalent to saying that kilograms is just for weighing feathers, but not bowling balls. So, dB, by itself, is just a unit of comparative measure, and means nothing.

If you have to wear earplugs to concerts, what is the point?

You can get musician earplugs or earplugs with filters in it to reduce the impact of noise/to protect your hearing while also still being able to enjoy the music

You can still hear everything fine. Often the volume is a big part of a genre. I'm a massive metalhead and the volume lets you feel the music in your bones. It really makes the atmosphere. But obviously, you don't want all that blasting your ears

I don't go to concerts, but if I did I'd want my ears to bleed.

Going to a concert and wearing earplugs is pointless imo, you go for the experience. If you’re gonna bitch about your ears then don’t go lol
