Charlie Brooker tends to approach Black Mirror as a show that's designed to warn the public about the present way we use technology and how it's effecting us. Even the title "Black Mirror" is a reference to what a screen becomes when you switch it off. A Black Mirror episode that focuses on our obsession with nostalgia and how it's fuelled by social media could potentially be done, but since Black Mirror tends to focus on more plausible technological developments I doubt there would be any time travel involved.

That way you save everyone AND become a trillionaire. Hopefully one of you survives and can use your piloting skills to safely guide the plane to safety. Airport security would get ramped up, preventing any further attacks.

+Nonuv Urbeeznus I like this method. The only problem I see is that one might not remember exactly which planes the hijackers used. Most people couldn't say where the planes took off from. But if you had a time traveling guide who could tell you stuff, like in this video, I'd say it's a good method!

They've spread propaganda and misinformation under reporting the number of deaths due covoid in their own country even going as far as saying the virus originated in Africa and not in Wuhan. George W. Bush would have been a boring, conservative President who continued a policy of deregulation and might not have won a second term. The main line of conflict in American politics would have been environmentalism vs. libertarian capitalism for way longer, as opposed to nationalism turning into populism vs. realism. As a result, the political camps would not have changed as drastically as they did. In Europe, the "Old Europe" social-democrat generation (Chirac, Schroeder, Blair) might have ended sooner since they would not have been able to run on the basis of being a counterweight to Bush. In consequence, their successors may not have ended up being Sarkozy, Merkel, Brown. Also, Green Day would never have had the career they so desired. Global contempt, particularly amongst young Muslims would be less. I think the long term impacts of a generation of Muslims having a concrete reason to develop, or being influenced to develop, a visceral hated of the west has yet to be felt. Putting aside terrorism/attacks directly, the political and cultural impacts of the masses developing genuine fear and hatred of the US is going to have ramifications in the years ahead. Secondly the total cost of the war is estimated to be $3 trillion all in. In the context of the the overall national debt ($21 T) its not the determining factor but it's still a huge investment in something that does not pay anything back to the country (compared to infrastructure etc).
@tifforo15 жыл бұрын
Good analysis! But that's all assuming Wolfowitz wouldn't have convinced Bush to invade Iraq anyway. Afghan war wouldn't have happened, but the stuff about other leaders being a counterweight to Bush and Muslim resentment seems to have come more strongly from Iraq than Afghanistan despite Afghanistan lasting longer. Bush probably couldn't have won a second term if he had invaded Iraq (already fairly unpopular move by 2004 even before the intensity peaked in 2005) without any domestic attack making people feel like they needed a "war president" though. I'd say that without 9/11, his only chance of getting reelected would've been to NOT do a major invasion.
@daviderickson86995 жыл бұрын
@@tifforo1 Both interesting posts. I think the neocon group (Wolfowitz et al) wouldn't have had nearly the influence. Sure, they could've taken some yellowcake to the UN but probably the most that would've come out of it was a long-term no-fly zone enforcement over the minority regions and extremely harsh sanctions. No boots would've hit the ground. No ISIS, but al Qaeda probably would continue random attacks throughout the world and still attain the flag bearer status for sympathetic groups in Asia and Africa, albeit more slowly without the stunning event to catapult them to the top. Man, if only our current political debate was centered on ecology vs. economy. What a freakin' walk in the park that would be...
@cattysplat5 жыл бұрын
To be honest your only really judging from an idealised version of the future based on the war on terror not occurring, whilst it's very likely something else of similar occurrence could have taken place, perhaps even intentionally if your a conspiracy theorist, even involving other big military threats like Russia, China and Iran. The lack of airport security was always going to result in an attack to eventually to change that. The naivety of the general public being ignorant of the consequences of globalism whilst accepting the corporate sell of "its good for us and them" ideal was never going to last either when the truth comes out and highlighting how it lowered wages and destroyed the middle class, enabled global terrorism and made the west a political correctness circus which would always lead to rising nationalism and a fight back against those who felt persecuted and that their freedom of speech was being ignored. One thing is for sure is that most of those in power during this time become insanely wealthy, powerful and are remembered mostly in a positive light when many of them should have been put into prison, told to apologise for their crimes and had their wealth taken away from them, instead we continue to live in a world that they created and benefited from, so our following politicians continue to follow them as rolemodels and uphold the system that keep them all wealthy and powerful.

Knowledge of all those stocks and the time at which they all peaked would make someone with a thousand bucks easily into a billionaire by the time of the housing market crash if they started in 1991. A billionaire with the foreknowledge would have the influence and wealth to prevent the housing market crash if they knew where, when, and how to apply leverage. You might not stop 9/11, but you would stop a lot of suffering and such when it came to 2008 and onward. Might have even been able to prevent 9/11 and contributed to world peace if you had the right timing, for that matter. But maybe that's not what you meant by "Why?", so I'll explain the housing part. If you invest in housing during that time, you stand to lose massively if you don't get out a day or two before the market bubble burst. Same with Enron - if you don't pull your cash a few days before the big scandal hit, you lose it all. Trillionaire by 2008 if you hit all the market booms for each company listed above, plus maybe a couple of others. What you do with that wealth, power, influence, and fame is up to you... if time travel were real, of course.
@clowntrooper619 жыл бұрын
Brother Jay Gaming You ever heard of black monday when in 1987 the stocks dropped. How would prevent 9/11? Why not just stop the islamic revolution? If you knew that you wouldn't have such a shit job in the present and need to go back and make yourself rich. How much do you make now? How come your now a real estate or stock broker? I'd rather not fuck someone over for personal gain. If you sell your Enron stock some other sucker is going to lose it all when it does collapse. I'd rather not wreck someone's life. Also what about after. Wouldn't they ask for their money back from you because the stock was low before the crash and they just changed the books.

Embarrassing confession: I was in high school on 2011. The whole "make a wish at 11:11" was a decently big thing, and with the approach of November 11, 2011 people were talking about wishing at 11:11, kids superstition and whatnot. I'm not superstitious but I always liked trying things. I decided I would wish to go back in time with all my present memories and try to stop 9/11 from happening. I did end up unable to stay up that late and fell asleep, waking up degected the next morning.

Ah, yes, the moral and ethic conundrums that come with time travel. Are we morally obligated to try and prevent certain tragedies? Is it even possible or will whatever happen happen despite our best efforts because the future is set in stone? On the one hand, stopping 9/11 would be great and you'd think it'd be the right thing to do, saving all those people. On the other hand, how would it change things? How many people would be born or not born if you stop 9/11? How would it affect America's anti-terrorism policies? One if, if not the, biggest reasons we stepped up our anti-terrorism tactics is because of 9/11.
@cattysplat6 жыл бұрын
People see terrible acts of war and terrorism as something that should always be stopped if we had the knowledge and power to do so. But that is just pure naivety, sometimes a lesser evil stops a greater evil from becoming a reality, plus also highlights the weaknesses in a society that has not been at war in so long. It showed how vulnerable we are to being attacked, imagine if instead of 9/11 we had an even bigger event of mass highjackings and assassinations of everyone in power to destabilise the country, all conducted by another superpower? As the old adage goes: If you want peace, prepare for war.

Michael Ritchie You say that but by the end of the day 12 - 50 more people will comment that same stupid dribble and forget that the video is satire. @coralreef71388 жыл бұрын
This video makes a really good point. Like, if you go back in time, you feel obligated to stop huge tragedies from happening, like the Holocaust and 9/11. But how do you stop tragedies before they happen? Bc no one is going to believe you Bc it hasn't happened yet. No one will know what you did. If you go and kill the guy who did the Sandyhook shooting you'll be pegged as murdering an innocent person. You'll be the only one who knew that he was going to kill a bunch of innocent children and teachers. Kind of makes you wonder what if some of the random shootings that happen every day are people who time traveled back to stop other people from doing something worse? I mean logically that's obviously not true, but it's also impossible to prove that this isn't the case, you know? You there's always that little thought in the back of your mind of it being a possibility. Sorry, didn't mean to get so serious over this but it really made me think.
