Sounded like a job for K-Seal Ultimate Head Gasket Sealer....Chuckle Chuckle 😃. Are the Dodge engines in trucks any good for long term reliability these days? The Fords and Chevys seem to have more than thier share of inherent flaws at fairly low miles these days. And these vehicles are not Cheap, at least Price wise. NICE JOB on the correct repair! 👍 I always wished I had a lift like that at my disposal, the things I could of done in a third of the time it took me.... Thanx;Jeff and Tina!!!

Nice job. The truck sounds great. It’s -31 in my area right now. Gm removed my block Heater cord due to a fire risk recall back in June last year. And no fix or parts available yet. I had to install a oil pan heater so I can start my truck. I love my truck but not happy with gm right now.

@@genechoate5020 I have a 2019 dmax . The only dealer in my town is waiting on GM to come up with a service advisory. I called GM directly 5 times in the past 3 months. They say and I quote ( There is nothing we can do until a fix and parts are available) . GM has left northern Canadian duramax owners in a bind. It gets cold here. Been in a deep freeze past 3 weeks. Average -35 .
@genechoate5020
@genechoate5020 2 жыл бұрын
@Lloyd Marche that’s no good, it doesn’t get that cold in Oklahoma, maybe I got it fixed before all the parts shortages. I went to the dealer after getting a letter saying parts were available and had it fixed. I keep fighting a #3 glow plug issue, it’s been going on for a year and a half now, it might go a week or 3 months before the code comes back and the dealer says they’ve replaced everything.

Mrs truck master has a lot of faith in Earle LMFAO but she is correct in saying she's surprised ! we've all started something that leaked , and at some point in everyone's life a vehicle that we repaired had to have it towed back on the first test drive, we've all been there! Clearly she's bared witness to all this LOL couple years back my neighbors they built a motor for a car put it in and got it running they both forgot to put the oil in it yeah needless to say that didn't turn out too well! It's nice when they don't make them out of the driveway that way you don't have the disgrace of getting towed back home

I would NEVER use sand paper or a sanding block on engine metal. You should never use a cleaning tool harder than the surface you are cleaning. Sand is harder that iron and WILL scratch it, permanently, which cannot be a good thing. Instead of the flat head gasket pressing it's full authority onto the pristine flatness of the block, you now have the problem of trying to seal up all those tiny scratches from leakage that your sand paper made.

So the backstory is someone probably blew the stock gaskets, then paid a shop to stud and replace gaskets. They cheaped out and used recycled trash bags as a gasket and studded it. Then the poor owner started getting problems again. Must be frustrating to spend a fortune getting head gaskets replaced on your truck just to be right back in the same predicament a year later. So he sells it to your friend. Many months later you discover that none of this expensive heartache was necessary. Even the dealership would do the same thing: replace with more shitty gaskets. So even paying a mechanic to do the hard work isn't a good idea unless you're knowledgeable enough to demand that mechanic use mahle gaskets and high quality studs, or better yet, buy the kit and give it to your mechanic. Pay for labor only. Such long lasting disaster due to ignorance.

I'm in denial too, I also think it could be my EGR (I live in the PRC, we need to keep that on) that might be leaking causing pressure problems. I only get a low coolant light /high pressure after I gun it to get on to the high way. I'm hoping it's not anything to do with the heads or gaskets. I'm leaning towards ARP studs but also been eying those Xotic studs as well.
@TruckMaster

Since 1972, every rebuild, at any level... from a simple head gasket replacement to a complete rebuilt, I have always started with..... a single-edge razor blade.... it's effective and it gives you instant feedback as to how FLAT that block actually is. Simple but very effective tool that not too many mechanics make use of.

(Insert Marmot scream) I love this truck, so I am going to pull the motor again this spring.

when you use a sanding block to straighten the surface, you should leave the surface rough for the head gasket to bite into when torqueing the head on, I always use an 80 grit and call it a day, and like you said, don;t cheap on the gasket and you will be all set! awesome to see this come back to life!

I’m curious after installing starfire efi live and dsp5 on my LMM I keep getting overboost code. Have you had that before and if so what did you do to fix? I’m a broke shade tree mech. I try to work on my own stuff. Any help would be much appreciated. I’ve heard my wiring was bad or map or maf sensor. I don’t have the money to just throw stuff on it but don’t have an idea where to start. P0234 is the code. I clear it and yes it keeps coming back no matter the switch position.
