Although the Turks raided Anatolia a long time ago, the 1071 Manzikert Victory was seen as a metaphor for the gate. The entry of Alparslan and his armies into Anatolia was not only for the purpose of finding a new homeland, but there were vital situations for both Byzantine and Seljuk in the background of the war. The rulers of both sides had to prove themselves, and their way was through Manzikert. Byzantine Emperor Romanos Diogenes had to stop the Turks in order to legitimize his rule. The situation was very different for Sultan Alparslan. He ruled a warrior and nomadic society. It was an obligation for Alparslan to find a homeland, to be strong in the political sense, to prove himself and to do all this in a way that society would accept. While facing the outnumbered Byzantine army, he had already risked death. Details such as his appearance in his white dress resembling a shroud and his tying his horse's tail were told in all history books. However, Alparslan made such ingenious strategies despite the disadvantages, and Romanos was so victimized by Byzantine intrigues that the Turks captured the Byzantine Emperor and emerged victorious from Manzikert in just a few hours. So, what were Sultan Alparslan's war strategies? Why was Romanos Diogenes not wanted by his own people and courtiers? Who betrayed and trapped the emperor? Prof., who carried out archaeological studies in Manzikert and traced the war. Dr. Adnan Cevik and Exp. Archaeologist Oğuzhan Karaçetin told the unknown details of the war.
