It was out of character for Craig too. I feel like a lot of people don't really understand the magnitude Chris Tucker had at the time this movie was filmed. He was riding high off the Rush Hour wave. Him not being in the Friday sequel meant a lot of people weren't going to watch the film. They pretty much had to change it up to help it stand on its own post Tucker. It was able to span a 3rd movie, created future success stories for several actors over the years. It's definitely whacky, but it remains one of my all time favs

I agree the sequels helped launch the careers of cats, especially Mike Epps and Katt Williams and even Terry Crews, but having said that they just weren't as good. To his point this movies got too wacky. The first one was funny but in a subtle way, like it was still in a real world setting. And Chris Tucker's Smokey character aside, the Ezell character was low key the funniest dude maybe in the in whole franchise.
