Best breakdown I’ve seen on what happened. Brutal to be a niners fan right now, but you showed how there’s blame to go all around. Dan b Yep. Happened in every Chief's playoff game. I also think the Niners didn't have experience to fall back on because in their games they're always ahead. Coming from behind with a run-dominant offense, if you don't have experience with how to do it-- they panicked and they just dropped it.

Yeah, I think the thing that made it look much worse was that Garrapollo decided to give himself up right AS the defender engaged him. I think his intent was to try and fall inbounds, but instead the defender shoved him well out of bounds like a rag doll because he had gone limp, just a split-second too late.
@3serio
@3serio 4 жыл бұрын
Donald Dover i disagree with the the giving himself up part. To me it looked like he was trying to run through #27. He was so far away from the sideline when he engaged with the corner and even had a bit of a forward lean. You have to give yourself up before that and slide imo.

As a 49er fan, I found this video brutal but informative. But how do the 49ers screw up so many fundamental things this late in the year? WRs running wrong routes, O Lineman unable to keep DT's hands down, not prioritizing your best player, Kittle, by design and then Garoppolo flat out ignoring him even though he's in the QB's line of sight and wide open? (On multiple plays).Then there' s Shanahan's weird clock management at the end of the first half (the same mindset that cost them a win in Baltimore earlier in the year). Contrast that w/ Doug Pederson's coaching style vs Patriots in the SB two years ago. The 49ers were poised to win and they let it slip it away. An excruciating loss.

If Garoppolo is engaged while he's in the field of play and pushed out, why would you be okay with a flag being thrown? He's a runner at that point, and while he did take a hard fall, the DB technically did nothing worse than the 49ers DB who engaged Mahomes while he tried to slide in the first quarter. Also, as others have pointed out, the guard moved first on that play, not 92 on the d-line
@brandonnjones22
@brandonnjones22 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I really like the analysis on this channel but those two things were just huge swings and misses by him. And to 49ers fans mad about the hit, it's the 4th quarter in the Superbowl. The DB is gonna expect the QB to try to get the first down, as he should, and so is gonna make sure he doesn't get it. Hell, last year in the game against the chiefs he did try to get the yardage when the game was already over. Db can't be expected to lay off him that far from the sideline in the situation.

The Chiefs had the same type of game plan against Tennessee, stop Derick Henry and let Tannehill try to beat you. Even Shanahan probably knows this in the back of his mind which is why they ran the ball a lot against Green Bay.

On the overthrow, Rashad Fenton (#27) was closing fast, and by the time that ball arrives he is in position to make a play. It would have had to be perfect because it was double coverage and any kind of underthrow is a pick. How can you say you should underthrow into double coverage? That becomes a jump ball and there are 3 defenders in the area... He overthrew because that was the only safe placement. Jimmy G also got hit late in his motion and may have put more juice into his motion to ensure it got there. Again, you have to credit the fact that the Chiefs got penetration and that when throwing into double coverage you always want to err long, not short. Look at it again, an underthrow is the ball game. 3 Chiefs are in the area. I think you are forgetting those 2 aspects. Jimmy G is expecting to get hit at release, which can take energy off the ball, so he dialed it up because he was throwing into double coverage where an underthrow is Game Over...

I really enjoyed this! I am a long time 49ers fan and that loss hurt. Most of the early analysis on the internet was simply blaming Jimmy or simply blaming Kyle. But you showed that it's not that simple. You had the best analysis. That 4th quarter was a complete breakdown of the entire 49er's team concentration. Really weird that they played that poorly at the end. Just like you said, "lots of bad."

@@xaviersoto3978 Chiefs defense wasn't really that great. Just because Jones and Clark *act* fired up, doesn't mean they're playing particularly well. The Niners folded and called crappy plays and didn't execute near the end and Pat capitalized. Had they not gotten away from their usual game, they'd win and the Chiefs may not have scored again. Bad play calling after Pat threw a second pick, 49ers gave the ball back after less than a minute of offense means defense still gassed, immediately put defense back on field vs fast receivers... found Tyreek open. "Nuh Uh! Nuh Uh! Tyreek is just magical like Baby Jesus!" Uh, no. He made up for Pat's second pick on a ball that should have been easy to catch and he couldn't come through with an easy catch. Yes, that Tyreek. Same guy. Niners blew it. People want to blame Jimmy and some of it was poor execution, sure. BUT, the bad playcalling was eerily similar to the Falcons collapse vs NE. My favorite part is Pat's agent is saying "Pay him bucko bucks right now via an extension or he doesn't report to camp and with the rigid salary cap, can you afford to bring that same team back? Doubtful. Not like Baseball where you can pay a luxury tax and pay everybody. Niner have Garoppolo, Deebo Samuel, Nick Bosa, Raheem Mostert, and DeForest Buckner all locked up. Niners can create some great cap space by not re-signing some of the players whose contracts just expired: Jimmie Ward, Marquise Goodwin, etc.

I noticed that as I re-watched the game the other day. Wasn't sure if that was an error by the refs or some rule I didn't know about. The nfl rule is 1 yard refs give 3-5 yards latitude. Sorta like a baseball umpire set the strike zone. KC's Weapon is the RPO and they also are the most penalized pass team yet with 42 passes not 1 holding? lol!!!!!! The Chiefs Defense has alot of looks, had two picks 49ers lucky it wasn't 5 interceptions. Von Miller prepared the Chiefs for Bosa. By the 3rd quarter Chiefs already knew they could win and they did.
