For clarification, he was not a Yankee commentator and was sarcastically commenting on the known harshness of yankee fans towards their favorite players. He himself was not being hard on judge but implying as an outsider that yankee fans should not be so unforgiving of a short slump. But yes, we yankee fans are brutal, and 30+ years of winning records have turned us into impatient, intolerant savages in the face of lowered expectations let alone defeat. In all likelihood, it probably negatively impacts some of Yankee players, including Joey Gallo, Sonny Gray, Rodon, and other talented pros

I preach basically this same message in an age of hyper analytics where GM's focus only on next Gen stats like barrel rate, exit velo, swing speed, etc. Many are forgetting one of the most basic tenants of the game: strikeouts are bad. Really bad. And this guy did it in almost 50% of his at bats. Nothing kills momentum more than a strike out with RISP and one or two outs.

He was a sucker for offspeed pitches, change-ups, breaking pitches and high fastballs above the chest. He killed rallies, he never moved men around the base, he often left men on base in scoring position because he whiffed more than anything else. Never saw a batter like him. Unreliable. And I never saw him try to make adjustments in his batting stance, he kept doing the same thing he'd always done, which made him very predictable at the plate. Pitchers could close their eyes and pitch to this guy and get him to swing at crap.

Gallo was doing good work for Texas despite the Jim Mason-like batting average; hit for power, drove in runs, terrific outfielder. He was even hitting .253 before his 2019 season ended; since then, he’s never gotten back to previous form, striking out even more often, average much worse, power’s dropped off. Maybe he needs to work with whoever resurrected Bellinger’s career.
