From the jump, not only did I fall in love with the music of La Bouche, but I immediately fell in love with Melanie. And like the Queen Narrator, I melted whenever I heard Melanie’s voice. I found out she died reading a Vibe magazine. I cried for almost 10 minutes and was devastated for years. I still have their CD singles, including their final hit together, “You Won’t Forget Me”. Great to know La Bouche is still going strong.

🌓Hey I just found your channel, I looked at the video talking about the group La Bouche and the death of a very sweet soul Melanie Thornton, we all were under the label with Frank Farian. I was the lead and only singer with a blue wig on in the group Chilli. We all toured together and became close. It was really hard to lose Mel she was there for me through some tough times in my life and I will always miss her. Thanks so much for showing love to both Lane and the late Melanie Thornton. He loves Christmas and listens to Christmas songs year round. I would tell him that I loved them in middle school when they came out. Be My Lover, Sweet Dreams was my jam. Still is. It was heartbreaking to hear about her passing in a plane crash in the news💔. My father didn’t know this. I got a call a couple of years ago from him crying. “Erica, Erica!!! She died??!! Melanie's death occurred during a very dark time and was largely overshadowed. Aaliyah had passed in August, then 9/11 happened. It seemed that Melanie's tragic death received a brief mention and then the focus shifted back to 9/11-related headlines. I was heartbroken when I'd heard of Melanie's passing all those years ago. Although La Bouche weren't huge here in the UK, 'Be My Lover' had charted twice, once in 1995 (#27), then again in 1996 (#25). They were still known however. It's hard not to connect the fact that they were re-promoting her album 'Ready To Fly' when she passed in a plane crash. Unbelievably sad and unbelievably surprising. Rest in Peace Melanie. Ps: Please cover the Eurodance act Livin' Joy. They were massive for a few years across europe and their vocalists have some great stories of their own

Initially, the rap on Le Click's "Tonight Is The Night" was done by Michael Romeo. He and Thornton had collaborated before. Robert Haynes was also the original rapper for "Sweet Dreams", but he had some sort of visa or legal problems, either in the States or elsewhere. The rap was redone by Thornton's former bandmate Lane McCray, and he replaced Haynes. Later, after not wanting the Le Click project to fade into oblivion, it was resurrected with Kayo Shekoni on lead vocals and Haynes rapping, recording a different version of "Tonight Is The Night" and a new song, "Call Me", with and without rap. Eventually, Haynes dropped out of the project and it just became Kayo's voice. When the album dropped, a number of the tracks were covers of Kim Sanders songs, recorded before she became the lead singer of Culture Beat (the lead singer of songs you know by them, like "Mr Vain" and "Inside Out" were sung by Tania Evans, who was not the original lead singer, but the most well-known one; Kim replaced her). Le Click has had only this one album. After Melanie left, the new lead singer of La Bouche was to be Natascha Wright, a German (or German-Swiss) singer, and they released one song, "All I Want". Once Melanie died, it was decided to retire the name La Bouche for awhile. Wright still performs and/or releases singles under the group name illegally, however, from my understanding. When "In My Life" came out, Thornton's vocals were augmented by Shekoni's in places to help piece together incomplete takes, I think, or to flesh out the song in general. It's hard to tell where one voice begins and the other ends, due to skilled mixing. Kayo Shekoni was also part of the Swedish trio Afro-Dite, who represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2002, placing 8th with the track "Never Let It Go". American singer Dana Rayne also sang briefly with La Bouche after Melanie's departure.

The first half of the 2000's was very tragic for celebrities. I've forgotten about the fact that Melanie passed away. The 2 singles off their debut album "Sweet Dreams" and "Be my lover" were my songs to listen to whenever I would do my homework at 🌃 I would turn on the radio and listen to those songs because of the upbeat vibe of the songs. Unfortunately that was one of the ways I would get anything done, particularly doing chores or homework. When I was young I never really listen to dance music like that unless I went to someones 🏠 at a party. I wished radio stations would have the time back then to play entire albums on the weekends instead of singles. That way the consumer could make the decision on whether to buy an album or not. If it wasn't for my mother's unique taste in music I would not have been able to have the tolerance to listen to dance music, she listened to every genre of music 🎶! I now definitely have the opportunity to listen to both of their albums. Rip mom, rip Melanie 🙏!
