I see this went straight over a lot of heads, but the message was that SONICALLY, his voice became harsh over the years and not two tone like it used to be. Which was my same argument for a WHILE now since "I Don't Deserve You". I always thought he was trying to pitch it up a bit like Wayne and Drake, but I too noticed it sounds like he damaged it some point in his career. This video was right on the money with how I've been feeling, but none the less, Banks' pengame is still formidable 💯

I think Banks just got older and his voice changed, because he started as a teenager. Look at this 134 all starz songs, then the earlier g unit mixtapes, then his first album and then since 2010 his voice sounds more nasal. I really like his older voice.

Ok course a 42 year old banks won't sound like a 19 or 20 year old banks. Especially with partying, smoking, drinking and touring in G units Glory days. I bet screaming on those stages stressed his voice. We have to account for that too. He is older now. Some people voices change as they get older. I ain't mad at it cause Banks gave us some of the best punchlines in Hip Hop during the early 2000$. Banks is still a top tier MC especially if you ask someone that was around in the early 2000$ to witness the run Banks and G unit had. Banks still has it in him. Note the lyrics on his song. ‘My brothers keeper’. - “' rights and white chicks, havin' nice in-flight trips Made a complete life switch, .” He made an artistic decision to distinguish himself as an MC. @@tdsnuggsI totally agree with you here. He has changed sonically, and it's a lot harder for me to listen to him now as well. He has really good wordplay still, but that voice ruins it for me. The Flex free is a really good example of how flat and monotone he sounds now. He still has dope bars, but the package as a whole is lacking. He talked on Joe Buddens podcast about how he still punches but prefers to do more intricate wordplay on his newer projects, that's not the issue most of us take with it though; it's that his voice lacks conviction these days.

@@Raffi220 I’m sure that’s why he left Fif. He was tired of just recording club songs or gunplay records. When Banks father died he needed to express that into his music. The beef started when Banks was explaining to Fif he was depressed that his pops died and Fif was like “yeah I get that but we gotta get these records out”. @@BlackFaithProduction What made things worse was Banks' father and 50 used to hustle in the streets together so that also led to Banks' confusion on why 50 wasn't more understanding. What I think led to their recent issues is 50 did the same thing in 2017 when Banks' mother or grandmother passed away and 50 starting joking on Instagram about him being MIA. Then learning from a fan about what happened and saying Banks didn't tell him about it

I dig the video because I always heard this as a Banks fan others would say it’s his voice that kills it for them. The video leads me to believe we’re both fans here so we can set that aside and speak as if we’re on the same side. I never noticed his voice as being bad and always took it as the people who don’t like him just don’t mess with him. That’s that. But hearing the side by side comparison the change is drastic and it can be something to them not liking his voice. I guess I was a fan of it and didn’t mind his voice. Bars and overall projects always been nice. I think as a grown ass man our voices mature. I’ve recorded over 20 years myself and I can definitely hear that I sound more mature as time passes. Voice wise. So maybe maturity and he always seemed low or “soft” spoken naturally so having to yell on mics in crowds and all that goes against his natural voice and tone and can be a factor too. With that and maturity my man’s voice changed some. Still sounds like Banks though. And most of the people I’ve grown up with have drank and smoked their entire lives. A person would have to be going nuts on that shit and I wouldn’t want to just slap that on my man’s name like that. It’s not “unbearable” like say, Beanie Seagal. That’s a total change for me and even as a fan of him I won’t listen. Overall good video and channel. Fuck with ya boy!

I figured he stopped using a recording program that made his voice sound deeper... but This actually happened to a lot of rappers. Ghost face was another one whose voice seemed to lose its bass. This is a good catch. Don't mind what people say, I absolutely noticed this and at the time people were acting like they didn't see a difference. There’s a lot of contributing factors for sure. The team of engineers he was working with while on Interscope was world class, and that shows. His voice has changed, but so have all the tools bringing his voice to the final song. His pen game is still fierce though. I also respect his decision to return underground (or whatever we call it it now) - not everyone wants the pressure associated with 50 level celebrity. Even for the extra money, although I am sure he is comfortable.

Overall though, I think Banks having to side with Fifty against all the elite rappers in the 2000's, Nas, Remy, Jada, Beanie, Cam, Raekwon, the list goes on, hindered the people he could work with and earn his place amongst Hip Hop's top Lyricists.

Every rapper goes through a voice change at some point. This is a huge reason i don't listen to most of their new shit most times. I understand evolving as time passes, but when you're basically unrecognizable from what made me a fan in the first place, its hard to ignore that.

This video is accurate and I would add that I closely followed BANKS and his voice changed around 2009 -2010 because during the 2 precedent years, G-unit had been touring consistently and Banks was performing all his songs with insatiable passion and won’t resort to lip-synching like the other members in order to save his energy and voice. Doing so consistently for 2yrs will definitely affect your voice. This is factual, just my theory.

His voice has changed but i think this is more of a delivery issue than a vocal one. He still sounds great on modern songs though arguably less aggressive/energetic. One coule argue he had consistently better production/direction in his earlier career but i ront think he sounds bad now by any stretch

You make this sound as if the vocal pitch are more norm when they’re really just an exception. I think it’s just a combination of a how it’s mixed too and if his new delivery matches the personality of the beat. The way you tell it though is like D.O.C. after the car crash or Beanie Siegel post Roc.

@@tdsnuggs I clearly say it’s a combination (keyword, combination) of how it’s mixed and how his new vocal delivery may not be matching the personality of the production. His new delivery isn’t so pervasive where it ruins a majority of what he touches which you also acknowledge. Now if you gave examples of where his new style ruined the entirety of a full project or projects, you’d have a solid case

You’re right. His voice is not good sonically. People don’t realize how important it is to have vocals that are pleasing to the ears. He also needs to get back to his punchlines, and shorten up his bars. He’s been trying to squeeze to many words in

It's different but not bad but to call the tracks whack is crayy My guy. And I noticed the voice change before 07/08 I actually noticed it on some tracks on the mixtapes Money In the Bank 4 and 5, The Big Withdraw tracks and on some tracks on Rotten Apple( Which makes sense they were all recorded around the same time)

damn bruh so harsh on banks voice. i mean in hip hop we went through worse without the level of lyrcism. i mean do u remember the Timberland and Magoo era? Silk tha shokker. and honestly for a lot of people from the south and east coast, the bay area's hyphy movement would get no play in at all. But i never found his new voice unbearable i just think those years of being 50's hype man on tour destroyed his vocal chords. without proper training this happens. Look at the screamo scene, its very common for them to switch out lead singers at most 4 times in a decade span.

All Banks did was use more octaves in his throat to develop different voices. Speaking from experience, using new voices leads to new new styles. He also stopped dubbing all his verses as much and focused on one layer of vocals which makes the beats 'pop' more. Banks has taken a more Nas approach with COTI series and HH4. He is more lyrical than ever and his vocabulary has sharpened since his hiatus. Just look up the lyrics. I will say this, I feel like his production lately though has been from the same 'box' if you will. I want to see him branch out his ear some more like with CC2 and V6.

Yea his voice change was very noticeable in the 2010-12 range notably with his mixtape V6 The Gift. Some tracks sounded like he was starved of water even though the project was fairly solid to me.I like banks old voice it was grittier and made the punches hit harder but musically he's gotten better from the FNO series onward and I think he's mostly kept a sound that favors his newer vocal tone to make it more tolerable which it has. This was a good topic cuz I've never heard anyone seriously bring it up but as a banks fan I always noticed but still enjoyed the music
