I see this went straight over a lot of heads, but the message was that SONICALLY, his voice became harsh over the years and not two tone like it used to be. Which was my same argument for a WHILE now since "I Don't Deserve You". I always thought he was trying to pitch it up a bit like Wayne and Drake, but I too noticed it sounds like he damaged it some point in his career. This video was right on the money with how I've been feeling, but none the less, Banks' pengame is still formidable 💯

I dig the video because I always heard this as a Banks fan others would say it’s his voice that kills it for them. The video leads me to believe we’re both fans here so we can set that aside and speak as if we’re on the same side. I never noticed his voice as being bad and always took it as the people who don’t like him just don’t mess with him. That’s that. But hearing the side by side comparison the change is drastic and it can be something to them not liking his voice. I guess I was a fan of it and didn’t mind his voice. Bars and overall projects always been nice. I think as a grown ass man our voices mature. I’ve recorded over 20 years myself and I can definitely hear that I sound more mature as time passes. Voice wise. So maybe maturity and he always seemed low or “soft” spoken naturally so having to yell on mics in crowds and all that goes against his natural voice and tone and can be a factor too. With that and maturity my man’s voice changed some. Still sounds like Banks though. And most of the people I’ve grown up with have drank and smoked their entire lives. A person would have to be going nuts on that shit and I wouldn’t want to just slap that on my man’s name like that. It’s not “unbearable” like say, Beanie Seagal. That’s a total change for me and even as a fan of him I won’t listen. Overall good video and channel. Fuck with ya boy!

Buggin. Yes, his voice did change and us fans did have to adjust to it. But he still as dope as ever. V.5 was definitely heat. Can She Live is one of my favorite tracks off V6. It's different but not bad but to call the tracks whack is crayy My guy. And I noticed the voice change before 07/08 I actually noticed it on some tracks on the mixtapes Money In the Bank 4 and 5, The Big Withdraw tracks and on some tracks on Rotten Apple( Which makes sense they were all recorded around the same time)

damn bruh so harsh on banks voice. i mean in hip hop we went through worse without the level of lyrcism. i mean do u remember the Timberland and Magoo era? Silk tha shokker. and honestly for a lot of people from the south and east coast, the bay area's hyphy movement would get no play in at all. But i never found his new voice unbearable i just think those years of being 50's hype man on tour destroyed his vocal chords. without proper training this happens. Look at the screamo scene, its very common for them to switch out lead singers at most 4 times in a decade span.

On some tracks, for me at least, it teeters between being unbearable and listenable. I want to reiterate I do believe his performance as a lyricist has evolved from being just a punchline rapper. Always will be a fan of Banks. Can't wait for CC3 to drop.

@@tdsnuggs once you get through drakeo the rulers catalog with his leaned out delivery u literally can listen to anything. Took a while for his voice to grow on me but once it did I couldn't stop laughing at his punchlines and sense of humor. Another rappers voice whos went drastic changes is the doc. Now his voice after the accident you couldn't imagine on a track at all.

@@MilesBeatsLive that's a good one. But another comes to mind is Shyne. I wouldn't say his voice changed it was just older and lacking charisma and it seemed like he lost his flow.

@vash254 shyne voice change hurt cause he was one of the dopest gangster rappers ever to me. He couldve been a legendary rapper.

sometimes he sounds like Westside Gunn if he was rapping in his talking voice (TDS).

Sugma! Yeah it's real frustrating when he raps in these ridiculous tones that sound unnatural.

His voice changed a lot, but his style is unique. From hunger for More until COTI,he never disappoints.

I did like his old voice a little better. But his pen got sharper with time.

All Banks did was use more octaves in his throat to develop different voices. Speaking from experience, using new voices leads to new new styles. He also stopped dubbing all his verses as much and focused on one layer of vocals which makes the beats 'pop' more. Banks has taken a more Nas approach with COTI series and HH4. He is more lyrical than ever and his vocabulary has sharpened since his hiatus. Just look up the lyrics. I will say this, I feel like his production lately though has been from the same 'box' if you will. I want to see him branch out his ear some more like with CC2 and V6.

Yea his voice change was very noticeable in the 2010-12 range notably with his mixtape V6 The Gift.Some tracks sounded like he was starved of water even though the project was fairly solid to me.I like banks old voice it was grittier and made the punches hit harder but musically he's gotten better from the FNO series onward and I think he's mostly kept a sound that favors his newer vocal tone to make it more tolerable which it has.This was a good topic cuz I've never heard anyone seriously bring it up but as a banks fan I always noticed but still enjoyed the music
@tdsnuggs3 ай бұрын
people think I'm hating, but it's really pure frustration as a Banks fan. CC2 is still classic, FNO is still classic. I think I was a lil harsh on a couple points though lol. Thanks for your logical response.

@@tdsnuggs I understand cuz I noticed the same thing after he made his hfm2 and then it got real bad during that 2012 V6 run.It sorta reminds me of dave east voice changing after 2017/18 timeframe the same timeframe he admitted he was addicted to lean which likely altered his voice.Rappers underestimate the value of keeping their vocals protected and healthy cuz you never know what might alter it

Banks cadence and tone has change because of him being relaxed and comfortable with his position in rap.
@Luke973T3 ай бұрын
I agree. I noticed the start of the changes in 2006 when he dropped the hands up song. It wasnt as egregious as it got in 2008 but he didnt sound as cool or aggressive as he did in the early 2000s. I remember people complaining about his original voice and i thought that they were crazy. In Jersey I never heard that complaint but when i moved back down south thats when I heard it.
