glad to see you are alive and doing well thank you for your service. definitely missed the videos. once you re assemble I recommend pressure lubing the engine to get oil all through the engine before start up should be able to find a cheap pump to rent or buy. take your time you can never be too clean with these jobs. other than all that i would do exactly what your doing id be curious to see the oil filter cut open.

Man glad to see your back , and doing all the work. I did the exact same thing as you are. I had blown hg , did the full tear down, found #6 cyclinder had pitting . Dropped everything off to machine shop that did the head work for me. I got them to assemble short block for me. I did the rest my self and went with xotic head stud after watching your video. I did upgrade the head i got it ported and valve spring the push rods.

Fire ring that engine. I built a 6.7 on my channel for the same reason. Spun a rod bearing. All in with everything Mahle which is what Cummins uses. I think you’ll be into it with that cam about $7200. I was all in $5800 without cam and head studs 5 years ago and I had a good engine block but crank had to be reworked a little. I’ll be watching to see final cost. Keep them videos cummins.

Glad your back thank you for your service I commend any serviceman but I am in the same boat as you my 08 I bought and I didn't even make it to make the first payment on it and spun a rod bearing seized it and then snapped the rod I believe I haven't gotten into it yet but I will be rebuilding it myself and will be following you along this journey already answering questions for me

You Gap the Piston ring wider because if that piston's getting hotter that ring is going to expand more than the other one so it still seals. It's just it expands more so you don't want it expanding to where it's hitting each other and then warping against the cylinder as it'll cut grooves in your cylinder and you'll ultimately lose power to destroy the motor and you'll start burning oil Which is true of any turbo motor people. Add turbos to factory motors all the time and they never go back in and Gap the piston rings and so the piston rings are gapped too small for the turbo application which generates substantially more heat. The failure points to piston ring it'll either snap or it'll expand and start warping almost and scrape the shit out of the cylinder wall😅

Just discovering the channel and I look forward to seeing the build and where it goes but look into Speed of Air pistons. They’re becoming more and more popular for good reason. This is the perfect build for them in my opinion. The increased efficiency of these pistons will pay for the whole build if you put enough miles on it over time.
