Hey, Hiya Mark. Well, today was the first time I had set foot inside Eldon Gardens in quite a few year and I was really surprised at what I seen and sadly there's loads of places just like this all over the UK. The cost of living, rents, rates and all the rest of it have gone up through the roof and people just can't afford it. What a messed up, mental world we are living in and it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. 🤬

I remember visiting here 15 year ago when over in Newcastle for a few days. What happened?

So depressing, it reminds me of Chester Le Street market, bith great places turned to wastes of space.

I visited Chester Le Street a couple of weeks ago I had no been in years and was shocked at all the empty buildings and even all the pubs were closed on the high street, It's so sad to see our towns & cites destroyed.

It's getting worse by the day and this is pretty common now. I was in the Metrocentre over the weekend and you wouldn't believe the amount of empty shops / units, even the big Currys which was there for ages is now closed.

The Victoria Shopping Centre Westminster Arcades in Harrogate heading the same way

Yet just round the corner from there the rest of Eldon Square is still going strong. Weird little section that never really took off, I think they thought foot traffic from the multi-storey car park would sustain it the shops were different every time I walked through, guess they just gave up on it in the end.

From what I remember all or most of the shops in there were designer label clothes stores, art galleries selling paintings for hundreds / thousands of Pounds even and the like, but for the last few years the shops / businesses that are thriving as the Government screws us into the ground, relentlessly, are Pound Shops, Betting Shops and Greggs. 🤬

Will it go the same way as the Castlegate Centre in Stockton? I hope not. 😖

So sad to see it like this but the shops were too expensive, they got rid of the Green market which was always full for something posh & modern nobody wanted.

Hello and thank you for watching my little video and taking time to leave a comment. I agree with you, absolutely. I loved the Green market and would go often, once or twice every week.

@@lukehoneythunder You're welcome, Newcastle is unrecognisable now so many wonderful places wiped away like the old odeon cinema and the small shopping mall that used to connect to Woolworths, My Nana loved the Green market but as she was in a wheelchair we had to use the old fish mongers lift omg that was a scary lift and very smelly 😂

@@MrsMagpie Hello again, funny you mention the ODEON my Grandad worked there for many years and I loved going there especially as he got me free tickets not only to see the pictures but also to see groups and singers who performed there, that was quite some time ago mind. When you mention the little mall behind Woolworths, was it called the Newgate Shopping Centre? There was a Wimpeys there and I was in there many a time. I don't live in Newcastle, I live in a village 8 mile south but go to Newcastle a lot, usually once a week sometimes more.

@@lukehoneythunder Wonderful memories the Odeon was beautiful inside a bit like The tyne theatre and opera house on West Gate Road, Newgate that's the one I couldn't think of the name when I wrote the comment, I live about 6 miles from the Newcastle and used to go in 2/3 times a week but times are changing and it's not the same now so I only go when I have to.

The way things are going i'm thinking The Metrocentre might be heading the same was before long. I was in there a couple of months ago and couldn't believe the amount of empty shops / units in there. I was pretty shocked so went back next day with my camera and recorded this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ6WdoaXiL5jbas
