What Happened to Oleg Mitasov?

Oleg Mitasov made an unfortunate mistake which cost the Ukrainian man the chance of a lifetime. Mr. Mitasov's unraveling mind became a public spectacle as his erratic behaviors found their way to the outside world.

This sounds like a case of hypergraphia. This compulsion to constantly write nonsense is common in many mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, which Oleg was eventually diagnosed with.

Interesting video. But the story of the thesis being lost on public transit sounds a lot like the excuse of a mind that was already suffering some degree of the illness that shaped his life. I doubt it actually happened that way. Anyone who really lost the final version of a work like that would have had countless rough drafts, their research notes, etc.

I thought the same thing, but I wondered if he intentionally lost it because he was afraid of moving forward in his life or something.

Possibly. But it's also quite possible that the illness made him very disorganized, thus not having drafts that he could find, and that losing it led to his full mental break. Alternatively, the break could've made it impossible for him to think logically enough to gather his drafts and rewrite his thesis. There are a lot of ways it may or may not have happened, hard to say when someone has that kind of break and loses touch with reality completely.

I’ve been writing papers for years for class- I don’t have most of them and only do one draft. Not everyone functions the same way, and it seemed entirely reasonable to me that he could have lost his document entirely- and that this precipitated a psychological descent into his final stage. I’m a grad student of psychology, so this isn’t out of my wheelhouse either. I both see how this could have happened in terms of patient relations and as a neurodivergent person.

Love it! Need more channels like this. Not overblown and needlessly speculative like too many horror/creepy channels. Only thing I would say is that the audio levels shift quite a bit. I'm listening through speakers and had to turn it up a fair bit, then the music at the end scared me! (or maybe that was intentional...) You can definitely compete with Nexpo and folks like that though. Sick work
