I bought a ford transit connect (extended length) about the same time you bought yours, and had the same plans to build it out to be perfect for my needs. But I realized I’m not as handy as I need to be and it takes a lot of smart skills to do it well. So still loving having a van but it’s not optimized yet. I use two carts and a ramp and that is working pretty well. I was just so tired of loading in and out of the SUV and inevitably would forgot to pack something, but either way the van, most things I really need are always in there. Thanks for sharing!

Very helpful to hear your story and experience. Everyone has different needs for right now and the short term future, so it was good to get your perspective.

I bought a van more as a camera department style vehicle, and I really settled more on the style of carts and a ramp vs shelves. It made the use of the van more flexible, and using carts really simplified the load in and load out. I also got a GMC Savana too, so much more cargo and space for carts vs the smaller van style.

That's actually something I forgot to mention. We also wanted to incorporate carts into the van, but there just wasn't enough space to fit them in with the size of the cargo area.

@@jhnyhmnd That's a good point. Mine is bigger and its a noticeable limitation on the smaller vans. However, I do like the smaller vans for productions in a big city when I have to park underground. The bigger vans are just a no go for parking underground generally.

This is great transparency. This confirms my desire to invest in the Ford Transit Crew Cargo Van with high roof and extended length. I want enough room to transport crew (and family), and have enough space in the cargo area for a 1 ton ish size G&E package and camera package. To do it right it will cost money. Especially adding the custom pieces and ramp to roll carts in and out.

Thank you for posting this video... I watched your pt 1 video right before it. I have been down the rabbit hole on if I should do a production van or not. I am currently using a Dodge Grandcaravan, which works fairly well for about 50% of my still/video shoots, but has been limiting on the other 50%. I am hitting the point on the current vehicle where a replacement is going to be necessary. I don't want a jumbo SUV or pickup, but I am also not crazy about the full-sized sprinter/transit options. I thought your former vehicle might be the answer (or the transit connect), but perhaps not. Definitely not an easy solution. Cheers!

Glad this was helpful! Everyone's situation is different, but from my experience, this type of van is just too small..

This is pretty good content man, bought my ford transit connect about a year ago. Your video on how to get more clients was really good, and I can confirm that what you mentioned in it works. Can we get a part 2 on how to get more clients?

Great Stuff!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Totally makes sense. I personally prefer a much small cargo van. Driven lots of box trucks and larger cargo vans. Switching over to everything Aputure (LED) I'm able to pack everything I need in a much smaller package now.

Thanks man! Good to hear your take too. Crazy how much light Aputure/Amaran is fitting into small cases these days!
