Absolutely fascinating, especially how there is such a mix of abandoned and well-kept homes sharing the same streets! And I had no idea why Quakers were called that until now. Thanks for the education 🙏 😅

The fact that you don't simply bash the location for its negative aspects is refreshing.

Nice video man. I love roaming through Salem to see the abandoned buildings and architecture, there’s a cool abandoned theatre in town and lots of other cool places in the surrounding areas. I live 10 min from Salem, let me know if you’re in the area again and I’ll show you some other interesting places that time and rising seas have gotten too, like money island!
@underground_travel23 күн бұрын
Oh, we forgot to visit the old theatre! Yeah, we’ll let you know when we come back. It's always fun to learn from locals.

I learn so much from videos like this; the first person view of people walking/driving (in your case) in different settings around the world. In this case though, the decay is familiar. I thought it was just happening in rural South Carolina until I traveled more. My area was heavily impacted when a Dupont plant closed mid 80s. Weird you brought them up here. Also, good job on not talking or sounding negative about that community. There are reasons behind decay and some overlay. Great video.

Yeah, beautiful architecture with some Victorian and Gothic houses!

You should mix in some side window views of the interesting places or abandoned properties.

Thank you for the feedback! We will include some side window views in our next videos.

Looks like there's barely anything left open except the gas station and liquor store. I can't imagine how hard it must be growing up in this town
@underground_travelАй бұрын
There are still a few stores open, like a retro-style diner and a pretty good pizza restaurant. Overall, though, the town feels like a ghost town.

2 pizza places, 2 banks ,2 pizza places, Chinese place, 2 liquor stores,2 gas stations. Foods decent and most people mind thier own business it's actually the most peaceful place I've ever lived in nj. Their isn't much decent work not really worth locating to unless tour willing to travel for work or work from home.
@underground_travelАй бұрын
Yeah, it could be a good place to work from home with fairly cheap housing. The location isn't that bad since it has easy access to Philadelphia. Feel free to subscribe for more city explorations across the U.S.!

Interesting look at a little-seen place - good setting for a "haunted" horror story

Yeah! And it kind of reminds me of "the real" Salem, MA near Boston.
@travisdecheno5670Ай бұрын
Doesn't look abandoned to me.
@underground_travelАй бұрын
Not the entire town, but about 20-25% of the houses are abandoned.

Salem, MA is not that creepy (imo). They have a lot of tourist income so things are pretty well maintained. Any creepyness is deliberate to cater to tourists.
@underground_travelАй бұрын
Exactly! Salem has a dark history, but these days it’s very touristy and it’s quite nice. Have you visited both Salems?
@justayoutuber1906Ай бұрын
Its all in a flood zone too. So you can't get flood insurance.
@underground_travelАй бұрын
I didn't know that! That probably contributes to the city's decline. Have you visited Salem, NJ?
@RastologieАй бұрын
Wtf are they all abandoned 😮 the hall districts?
@underground_travelАй бұрын
Mostly due to the closure of factories and the rise in crime.

southern NJ in general doesn't have much to offer, this place even less
@underground_travelАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! That’s true, Southern NJ might not be the most exciting place, but Salem can be quite fascinating for those interested in architecture and history
