I always find one of the 'reasons' why Tawna was removed because Japan didn't like her is weird to me, when you look at the Japanese media, especially for kids, they're not afraid showing sexy ladies with 'curves'... that includes Pokemon. So I find it hard to believe that Japan would dislike her, in fact Crash Boom Bang is a Japanese developed game, the fact they're the first to bring Tawna back should be an indicator that Japan had no problem with her.

I really do blame Universal Interactive and their marketing director Kelly Flattery for removing Tawna from the Crash Bandicoot series and Keeping her away in the games from 97-2010 in the Crash Bandicoot games that Universal Interactive/Vivendi Universal Game/Vivendi Games/Sierra seen fit. I'm Glad Activision Brought her Back and Properly Redesign her as a prominent Character in the Series Reboot of Crash Bandicoot. Thank you for shedding serious light on this, Francis.

I like to think that in-universe, crashing the unmanned blimp from the first game was what split Crash and Tawna, so it was less to do with any issues within their relationship, and more to do with them being physically separated from each other. I don't really have any evidence to back that up, but it would explain how they got down from there after Crash 1, plus it leaves a little nugget of hope that the OG is still out there somewhere in some fashion... (also I think the love-triangle thing with Pinstripe that's been peddled around for years and years is just really dumb lol)

I faintly recall an old school Crash Bandicoot website state that the offscreen rationale behind Tawna's absence from the rest of the series was because after the events of the first game, she apparently dumped Crash for Pinstripe Poteroo (the weasel ganster with the Tommy gun). I guess Crash just didn't make for a great conversationalist, or was he just not... ambitious enough? 😅

If you ask me, Tawna is one of the characters in who had regained the prominence in the Crash Bandicoot series since Crash NST's release. The other character who got this treatment is N.Brio, who had appeared in every Crash Bandicoot games (including the now defunct Crash On the Run) since 2017.

Man, I wish they had done SOMETHING with Tawna before ditching her for C4's version. Her early characterization in C1 was so much more interesting before it got scrapped due to time/budget. She should've at least been in CTR '99 considering the whole game was a love letter to the series. I'm afraid that with C4 Tawna being the stardard going forward, any reappearances for the classic one will be unlikely.

HEADCANON: The most likely thing to be canon according to what is implied in these games is that Crash and she have a long-distance relationship now, she just went traveling around (she probably became famous like the other mutants) and sent letters to Crash and Coco ( photo of her in Crash's room in Crash Warped) according to Crash 4 it also doesn't break this saying that they lost contact, she must have lost Crash's address haha.

In lore- Crash 2 had a brief Manga series that expanded Crash 2's story a bit. At the beginning, Crash finds a letter from Tawna saying that she left Crash for Pinstripe because he was "a real man" or something like that. The manga was only released in Japan but there are fan translations.

I'm honestly glad Tawna returned after so many years being abandoned, I loved how they handled her recently especially with Crash N Sane Trilogy on how they redeemed her character and made her even better in CTR Nitro Fueled with a voice and personality that actually works really well and seems to stand out a bit from Alt Tawna so if they wanted to they could bring back Mainline Tawna in Crash 5 or heck CTRumble if they wanted, let's hope we see both versions in the near future. 🤞

A lot of people seem to be under the impression that Tawna just left Crash for Pinstripe, but why would she leave Crash to be with a villain, who tried to kill Crash while he tried to rescue her in the first game? According to the Crash Bandicoot lore's canon, Tawna left Crash for Pinstripe and Pinstripe is a potoroo and Tawna is a bandicoot and that doesn't make any sense. In my honest opinion, what was the point in rescuing Tawna in Crash 1 in the first place? If I was Crash, I would just leave her at Dr. Cortex's headquarters and I don't care what Cortex does to her. And what was the point in bringing Tawna back in the later Crash games such as Crash Boom Bang, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled and so on?

I'd say the Sony explanation holds ZERO weight when you look at Jak and Daxter. The designs of Keira and Maia were more in line with Tawna's OG design and that was before the series got darker with Jak 2. Still a massive fail on TFB's part for not including Tawna in the first bonus room in Crash 4 effectively implying she's dead. RIP OG Tawna.

Huh, I thought I heard Sony of Japan mandated a younger sidekick for Crash, hence Coco. Not specifically hate towards Tawna, just them pushing for a different ally for Crash, which maybe led to them ditching Tawna. It's interesting how many different ways the story has went, though Univeral just saying "screw it, make a new one" in the end does kinda make sense since Coco does have vibes of being a redesign for Tawna that they diverged in areas. As for why Tawna barely appeared again, I do wonder if that stigma with Universal really stuck or it might be simply because she wasn't a key character. The post-Naughty Dog games just kept to the signature cast from Warped onwards most of the time and added a couple new guys. Most of the characters that were minor and lacked voices and defined personalities like the Komodos and Koala Kong just kinda stayed that way and were kept out of focus. The only games that really tried developing the 'blank slate' characters from the early days were amusingly the two versions of Crash Team Racing of all things.

You know, i find it very ironic that i feel like Elora from Spyro sort of got the same fated treatment as Tawna did. Both got shafted after their original trilogies, although Tawna was first, until years later, they both got HD Remasters, and pretty much Tawna and Elora got a resurgence. Like, i get what happened with Tawna back in the day, but what was Elora (from Spyro) excuse from being absent after the 3rd game. To be honest, i hope Toys for Bob or whomever makes future crash games and possibly Spyro actually make more usage of Tawna and Elora, respectively. Tawna would be tricky on which version they use cause both version arent bad, the one in Crash 4 is more of a fighter than the original version.

As My friend actually found out something about how Crash Bandicoot created the Multiverse with those indirect sequels that are based in the world of the franchise but have no direct connection to them, hence the multiverse, in one of the flashback tapes where N.Brio was saying to Crash Bandicoot being a worthy ally to him, he must have been the one who gave Tawna, Crash, Coco, Ami, Megumi, Isabella and Liz the mutagen for them to be injected in them with the bipedalization with Dr. Cortex. As for Tawna's removal, I actually have a translation of what the Japanese Crash Bandicoot 2 manual actually says it says "Crash, Tokunchu Hey brother, don't slack off! If you train me with the Tokkun menu I created on my computer, you'll be popular! This is Crash's house on a small island in the Tasmania region in southeastern Australia. It looks like he's doing special training with a girl. That girl was Crash's younger sister, Coco. Coco is a bandicoot like Crash, but unlike Crash, who is troubled and clumsy, she is a genius who is knowledgeable about computers and networks. 4 If you learn new actions, you'll become even cuter than Tawna! You'll be more popular with girls! Good luck! His girlfriend, Tawna, befriended pinstripe and moved to the city. Disappointed, Crash started "Motemote Training"... I wonder if Cortex captured Crash and Coco during the Evolvo Ray project, and Coco not seen in Crash 1 but in another lab was being stored away in her own cage just in case Crash went rogue. Coco had flash back tapes of her experiments with Cortex in 1997 in Crash 4, Near Crash 2 timeline right? Then she eventually went wrong in the Evolvo Ray of becoming a general and went rogue to leave Cortex as well, she eventually finds her brother and then they live together. Tawna has always been my favorite since after the N'Sane Trilogy was released, I been supporting her and her relationship with Crash since 2017. I mean an idea of a Tawna spin off would been cool, Seeing on how she was doing while her bf was busy on stopping Cortex from taking over the planet, But she never goes off adventuring alone, Along with her are the nitro squad, Ami, Liz, Megumi and Isabella. Them having their own personality and funny lines Tawna and in my opinion felt pretty important as Crash and Cortex and deserves a better role than being that Damsel in distress stereotype

What's even more unusual is that there's a Crash Bandicoot manga where they have an explanation as to why we don't see Tawna anymore. At one point, she got so fed up with Crash's antics that she dumped him to go date... and I'm not kidding when I say this... Pinstripe Potoroo. This is also why Pinstripe and Tawna are playable characters in Crash Boom Bang.

From what I found, it was Universal's marketing director who hated Tawna in the first place. This marketing director happened to be a woman. No joke. Her belief was that no sexy female character will ever get a spotlight in any video game. Lara Croft came out in the same year and she got fame due to her game developers increasing her breast size as a joke. That and she's the female equal to Indiana Jones. Tawna disappeared because of a misogynist.

I actually did not play Crash 4 simply because i couldnt stand new Tawna, Crash is the last thing that needs a weird feminist character in it I already wasnt on board with the new Disney vibe the characters have in Crash 4 but i would have bought it if they didnt add or kept Tawna true to the original Crash 4 could have literally just ripped all the models from CTR NF and any real fan would be happier.. Reality is that the old models are iconic at this point, nothing is gonna beat them anything new should aim to look as close to the original low polly art work as possible but with as good quality as possible Crash 4 Tawna is by far the biggest stain to the universe, she doesnt belong in there, her story doesnt, her looks doesnt, her attitide doesnt, not a single polygon of her belongs in that universe, only the name... If you disagree with this i honestly cant respect that, it would be like changing da Vincis art and trying to justify it

I Heard that Tawna Bandicoot was made to be attractive, so teenage boys around that time would start playing the game because of her, yeah...., but because of this & her design, this was caused in being objectified in a sense, one of the female heads of the project (unsure if I have that right) decided to get rid of her in the next over full release of the trilogy "Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back" & decided on a more appropriate character being Coco Bandicoot, who supports girl power, & isn't a girl on a pedestal, as Tawna was in the previous title. I also heard that Tawna was based of someone else, besides Jessica Rabbit (unsure/can't remember who) & she was also mentioned that she had split up with Crash to be with Pinstripe therefor she didn't return, & also to add on that, Pinstripe is in crash boom bang, so she might have come back because of him, same with the small cameo of both in Twinsanity...., Especially in the small Japanese manga (that was based on the starting point for Crash 2) she has a letter stating to Crash she has moved on, & Coco trying to help Crash out, because of this devastating news. (& that's kinda why they are declared friends & nothing really more) For Tawna in the alternative time line, may have been what Tawna could have been based on wanted changes, with her features toned down a bit, & funnily enough the others (Crash & Coco) in her universe 'scrapped' instead of her..., she still has the main idea from the original (for teens to play, (I guess), but also has that Girl power, & isn't treated like a Trophy or Item at the end of a game. I'm all for hot Tawna. The trick is you have Crash and Coco as leads. The franchise appeals to young boys (Crash 1 especially) and girls (my sister loved Coco for example). I would bring in a new male bandicoot in 5 as Tawna's love interest, so you balance the cool hot characters for the audience.

And Coco was much more appropriate for young gamers.
