What happened to Terraria Adventure maps?

I can give a little perspective, at least from a builder's POV. First, making a massive, immersive map could take months. Especially if you add elements like wiring for interesting puzzles and mechanics. What you get for all those months of work, is maybe a 10-20 min playthrough..assuming you ever finish the project. 2nd as you identified, you have limited ways to make the world immersive...it is better to SHOW than TELL, but your options to do that are kinda limited. You may have a great story, but if no one reads all that text...the world feels cold/empty. I think ultimately, these are often passion projects...and with a seemingly dwindling number of builders out there - they will be relegated to something fun to check out.

something i think has a ton of potential is modded adventure maps, because then the creator wouldnt be limited with what they can do and can add their own blocks and enemies and bosses for it. the only example of a modded adventure map i know of is The Story of Red Cloud, so theres a lot of room for more (doesnt even need to be as detailed as TSoRC, id be happy to just see a modded adventure map as a short little adventure with its own equipment and enemies)

Yeah definitely, the whole time I was just thinking about how easy it would be to make mods for these. I'm a Terraria modder myself, and a lot of the stuff here would be super easy; that zombie map, for example, could easily be made into actual COD Zombies. All it would take are some shop NPCs for buying guns and gems, a timer that changes zombie spawn rates and types as time progresses (so makes waves), even custom zombies if you want to get fancy. Even just texture packs would make all of these so much better, like even just changing the mannequin texture alone so it actually has a face would be great. Edit: Oh yeah, and adjusting weapon damage of course. Adjusting values on items takes seconds, so having Terraria's whole arsenal of guns be balanced for something like that would be incredibly easy to do. It's a shame I'm not a builder at all because I'd love to work on something like that.

I think the Terraria adventure maps I enjoyed most were the Shadow Dungeon and Wizard's Revenge duology by Zoidflecker and Captain Camel1. I also enjoyed Unreality Inc. but that was an old map that might not hold up today. They were going for a Portal vibe and portal guns weren't even in the game yet so they used potions and the dirt rod and stuff. And if people are pestering you for more Starbound maybe you should try the Starraria maps. But yeah I think there's more Re-Logic could do to support adventure maps. More control of spawns, maybe a way to upgrade trophies/relics into wiring elements that can spawn bosses, a mode that doesn't require the player to trash their items at the start. Minecraft map makers who tried to crossover to Terraria pointed out this stuff better than I could a decade ago.

My favorite adventure map is Terra Knight, which is basically a parkour map with a progression system and level design similar to hollow knight. Exploring that open world parkour haven is so fun

One of the problems is that people don't have the ability to read more than 2 lines of text before their brains crashes. Would have to hire voice actors to narrate the story with their mommydom voices for people to know what is going on and what they're supposed to do.
