Completely accidentally by the writers given how often they keep going back to the idea the Mirrorverse is actually a danger, but I love that "A Mirror Darkly" basically amps the Terran Empire by giving them huge tech boosts (TWICE), but it just means the Mirrorverse is constantly the slow kid falling behind the Primeverse again and again. Even in weapons tech, as seen by the DS9 Defiant plans being used to make a scrounged ship with a rookie crew still being able to solo a Mirror Alliance fleet.

Not all cultures have the same relationship with historical artifacts as Western culture. The Japanese famously believe in restoring them to their original appearance (check out the 1000 year old Japanese sword). Some don't value them at all compared to replicas, which would be very easy to create in-universe. A bit off topic but honestly, I'm with the Japanese on this one. I truly don't care for all the accumulated gunk and rot most European and American collectors seem to love. What's more ridiculous is that they think anyone who doesn't love it is "defiling" the historicity of the artifact. They want you to believe that all that gunk and rot and faded paint is the one real way to appreciate an artist's craft despite the artifact not looking in any way whatsoever like what the artist intended.

There should be another parallel dimension where Starfleet is *pragmatic* but not *xenophobic.* And things are much better there in that Universe. They have more advanced tech since when they find something useful they run straight back to Starfleet Engineering HQ with it. They keep up a very strong military fleet... but one thats not used for Conquest but peacekeeping. And it's effective at that, it's a bad place to be a bad guy. So Starfleet is not caught off guard (repeatedly) by a peace dividend. And no fracking anti-cloaking treaty terms. The Prime Directive would also be *Pragmatic.* No watching while a pre warp species becomes extinct, there's a clause "To prevent extinction, the Prime Directive can be ignored." And there's a a specialist fleet of giant transport ships with cryogenic/stasis facilities to relocate if necessary. Every pre warp species has a dedicated cloaked defence and observation ship/fleet to protect its planet, and operatives monitor and sometimes secretly guide its society away from nasty ideologies and cataclysmic tech once it's getting to 20th century Earth equivalent. Preparing the way for first contact to be as peaceful as possible. That would increase the Federations members. Most importantly, genetic engineering of Humans isn't outlawed after the Eugenics Wars, it's just that modifying Humans to make them _more aggressive and dominating_ is realised to be a very bad idea. Instead a Human species that even the Vulcans admire. It would make a good one off crossing episode, but the *Pragmatic* Humans couldn't be the same cast (with muscle suits) as the population would be completely different, not another you. A actual utopia. To make the Prime Universe Starfleet crew feel inferior.

That's fun to play as in a 4x, but the entire point of Trek is that our intrepid heroes in Starfleet AREN'T pragmatic. They have open arms and let the other guys shoot first. Because one person's pragmatic and common sense is the future's war crime.

....................................................................................Philosophical Trek (and to some extent philosophical sci-fi in general) is best when it presents a complex problem without a clear "correct" solution and invites the viewer to ponder it and draw their own conclusions. Maybe one of the universes achieved an (on the surface) better end but lost more lives in the process, something like that.

Only after the Vulcans were defeated did Terrans turn on the Andorians, and they realised far too late that Humans were the real threat. Because even with the tech from a reverse engineered Vulcan scout ship, and a lead up time if they kept that secret from the rest of the Vulcans ("we lost a scout ship on a long range mission, logically it must have been destroyed with all hands"), post WW3 Earth would have been no match for the Vulcans, who were a serious power at the time.

Should consider that Mirror events could have been altered in Discovery Season 3 after Phillipa stepped through the Guardian again after being tested which could be why we see that Enterprise and not Mirror Mirror's..or at least the original eras version of it..

They need to figure out what they are doing with the constitution class, and the TOS era in general. They are constantly switching back and forth between shows when it comes to aesthetic. The Disco era Connie is larger than the og, but then we get the classic shuttle and tech in Prodigy. We have every episode of SNW, but then we see a classic Connie in the fleet museum. They can't make up their minds and, imo, they've realised the redesign was overdone and a bit excessive (this is NOT to say the design overall is absolutely terrible). The Disco starfleet in general was just badly designed, though we wont speak about the klingon ships and aesthetic, and trying to claim, "its all the same timeline," just seems disingenuous. I do like the 32nd century starfleet designs, though. Anyone else feel like they cant make up their minds?

I’ll show you a thing from that time that only I can show you for money but like monthly. How about when you didn’t have bills to pay or your dad was still alive? I own all kind of stuff from whatever time period that pulls at your heart strings and I’m gonna blast it into your face along with some special effects so I can get this sweet ad revenue money. Don’t worry about the plot just focus in on the thing I’m gonna show you that reminds you of a time before you found out the love of your life DID in fact do that thing she told you she didn’t normally do and in fact she had done it to Tyrone and then kissed you in the mouth at church. Next week we’re bringing back The Sisko. It’s really just some shots of a stunt double and some CGI over images we got of Avery Brookes at Whole Foods. We’re selling the company to Skydance so most board members will be long gone by the time the lawsuit hits.

as i remember: good kirk (from non empire) convinced evil spock (from empire verse) that a govt (based upon fear, conquest, and other negative aspects) did not fit logically. logic would state - an empire based upon fear, conquest, oppression, etc... - would soon fall as the oppressor would soon meet a point in which oppression would fail, fear would be replaced with the love of freedeom, the conquerers would then be conquered, those who enslave will eventually become slaves to (who previously enslaved). the mirror verse spock then "conspired" to have the non-mirror verse kirk returned to his verse and "his captian" returned to the mirror verse. meanwhile on the other side: spock logically assumed that kirk was not acting correct. He was too aggressive, too mean, too quick to deal out punishment. at the end (If i remember correctly) good (non-empire verse) stated (when asked how he discerned this) - spock (non-empire verse) said, "it is easier for a civilized person to act non-civilized then a non-civilized person to act civilized.:, what this means = a person grounded in non-empire thoughts can act in an empire thought pattern (because the non--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks you. I couldn't figure out from what period the ISS Enterprise was from. I still don't like the fact it's the SNW design. I assumed that the USS Enterprise from SNW was changed to look like it does by TOS. This episode confirms that classic design has been "erased" from new Trek (apart from the one in the Picard fleet museum). Very annoying actually for us long term fans.
@DeaconBlues1177 ай бұрын
It confirms nothing of the sort. In fact, it's entirely possible that ISS _Enterprise_ underwent a refit that happened to make her look like her old-school Prime counterpart, similar to how all the people seem to coincidentally wind up in similar positions in Prime and Mirror.
@Jamesalec637 ай бұрын
It's impossible to answer to this because that event possibly never actually happened in the new timelines or if it had that Enterprise was taken apart by the Federation scientists to discover how it worked a curious question here, is this how the warp core was improved at this time and transporters had an upgrade too in just a small amount of time? On a twist to this in Mirror Mirror and other stories has anyone ever noticed how that version has a slightly different color scheme in the design of the uniforms theme slightly darker in the captain logo not golden more coper-like style? And how the layouts of the two brigades are on main Enterprise and the Mirror Enterprise look slightly different the captains chairs are set at different heights even so slightly different. And if you think in Enterprise the series that is the Enterprise it is actually another ship the twin of Enterprise?
@scottkfilgo7 ай бұрын
I gotta ask how you acquired the dates for Spock's post-Mirror Mirror history. We see on the ISS Enterprise in the new episode that the plaque is dated stardate 32336.6 which places the plaque and probably the transdimensional defection in 2345 (ten years before TNG season 2 stardates). Perhaps your dates for the fall of the Empire in the late 2200s (2285 etc) are based on long established Beta Canon, but this Alpha Canon seems to suggest a much later date for the fall of the Terran Empire.
@CertifiablyIngame7 ай бұрын
Yes its beta content added in until we have something concrete to contradict it. However I also excluded a lot of stuff that happened from the non-canon sources however that I doubt happened now, so it's a little in complete. To be fair, I did not work out the stardate, but assumed it was added by the science team returning because it seems a little strange for the refugees to record their tale in a dedication plaque while they were still living it. I assumed Dr Cho added it here as part of the Progenitor team's "lessons".

How does all this fit into the TNG/DS9 Mirror Universe where the Terrans are apparently utterly concurred by the Klingons?
@amazedsatsuma7 ай бұрын
It is likely that the Mirror universe Klingons already formed their Alliance with Cardassia and were at war with the Terrans before Spock's death. Afterwards, Spock rose to Commander in Chief of the Empire by preaching reforms, disarmament, peace. It was quite a remarkable turnabout for his people. Unfortunately for them, when Spock had completed all these reforms, his empire was no longer in any position to defend itself against us. ~The Intendant aka mirror Kira, DS9 Crossover
@RanSolari7 ай бұрын
The conflict between imperialists and reformists almost certainly weakened the Empire, making it all the easier for the Alliance to conquer.
@DeaconBlues1177 ай бұрын
That happened over a century after Action Saru led an uprising and stole 1701. The new tech the Terrans swiped from DS9 gave them the power to defeat the Klingon/Cardassian Alliance and restore the Empire.

What's the fun in destroying a planet when you can conquer it and enslave the population instead? You'll notice that in "Mirror, Mirror", even though the crew question Kirk not wiping the planet out, they do seem to accept his further attempts to get them to surrender as within Imperial policy.
