00:10 Romania adopted these 3 colours way more before Chad, in the middle of XIX century. Chad adopted the flag in the 1960. In fact, Chad contested Romania's right to these 3 colors, but international forums ruled in favor of Romania.

1859 Unification was inspired and encouraged by France , not by Ottomans . The goal was to have a unified state to oppose the Russian influence and expansion in the zone, after the Crimean War . Russia was already expanding here since the beginning of 18th century and was targeting the mouth of Danube river as a step on their advance towards Constantinople . Later they claimed to protect Orthodox Balkanic people from the Ottomans . In 1812 they annexed eastern half of Principality of Moldova which became Bessarabia and now Republic of Moldova . Romanian Principalities were invaded at least 10 times by Russia until the end of 19th century . They were even declared Russian Protectorate at a point .

A couple errors. The 1821 revolution was not against the Ottomans, but against the Phanariot greek elite which it did, ultimately, succeed in deposing (although it was mostly a change of the times). And, very importantly, in 1859 Wallachia and Moldavia united IN SPITE of the Ottoman Empire and frustrating it greatly, because the Ottomans had only influence on paper in the region. There was an election for Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the Domnitor first elected in Moldavia and then here, in the south (I am from Bucharest, a city he turned into the capital). It is quite a major mistake, since under him we see the change from Cyrilic to the Latin alphabet, a massive Agrarian Reform, Secularization and the basis for a constitution which his successor Carol I would adopt. The eagle raven with the cross in it's beak is a Wallachian symbol strictly, extrapolated through conflation with the Roman Aquila into a symbol-at-large for the country's Latinity. Semi-independence already existed. Vassalage does not mean functioning as a federal constituent or governorate or whatever, but it relates to an independent country whose external policy is controlled and which has to pay tribute. But the Ottomans largely did not meddle in any internal affairs, they didn't even pass through here. Proof being the very very many periods where we switched hands. Look at any mapping video of any major conflict in the Balkans during the Ottoman period and you will see how, dozens and dozens of times, these "vassals" were to ally themselves with Poland, Austria, Russia, the H.R.E, etc. The flag was never given by any foreign official, they had no right to involve themselves that way, it would have been seen as quite unnatural. As if the Communist states of the Warsaw pact had their symbolism given to them by the USSR, which widely was not the case (and this is quite a faulty analogy, because satellite states bore less freedom than the Danubian Principalities!). Rep. Moldova is a region we know as Bessarabia. It is not the Moldavian heartland but a border-region. It bears the name of the Wallachian founding dynasty, rather than any Moldavian element. Mostly since it initially was a name for the coast, nowadays known as the Budjak region. The name somewhat migrated to encompass northern regions east of the Pruth as well.

@wallachia4797
@wallachia4797 2 ай бұрын
"Loopholes" like these don't really exist in international politics unless you can enforce them. The Ottomans didn't accept the new status quo out of some feeling that they have to respect international law, but because it was beneficial to France, Britain and Prussia which enforced upon them the "loophole" which you speak of.

The top dogs in Europe were in favor, even if The British Empire was trolling, France made up for that. The Ottomans, after Crimea and the Ruso-Romanian forces commanded by king Carol I (post mortem named 'of Romania' house) crushed the turks and bulgars, went into full cope mode and wanted as much distance from Russia in the Istanbul region as possible. They said, let the russians deal with romanian revolts, we had centuries of it not being productive. They kept to taking taxes and bribes as a result, but the bier was out for full conqust and what that entailed. The ruso forces were beaten, then the tzar was like, ok king Carol, you go in with your army and whatever was left of the tzars forces that you think you can rally, but make sure Russia gets the international renown.

Transylvania is known for not having Romanian symbols on its coat of arms. but the German-speakers and Magyar's speakers appear. 1. the mythical hawk(black bird with an orange or red beak), called the Turul, that guided the Magyars on the steppes. 2. the Szekely blue sky with the crescent moon and sun. 3. the 7 Saxon fortresses(usually red on yellow background. or yellow on green background) 4. the red Austrian imperial strap. this is why the 1784 revolutionaries wanted to put eagles, lions or women with falxes on there. as there was no real representation for the Romanians who were 1. the natives and 2. the majority. speaking of, "Transylvania" is the latin translation(which was used by the Magyars in their documents since the beginning) of the Magyar "Erdely"(erdo-elve, land-behind-forest) showing the colonial element of the region. but this can be said for most Romanian regions, their delimitations and names were influenced by foreigners. Banat and Dobruja have slavo-bulgar legacy. Bukowina has austrian-ukrainian legacy. Moldova germanic. Bessarabia cumano-russian. Crisana romanian. Maramures romanian-magyar. Timoc romanian. and so on. i don't know, maybe we should just rearrange the province into "Agathirsia" or something and give it new borders. we might counter slavic and uralic imperialists that use pseudo-history and chauvinism to divide my country. anyway, going back to the subject. the 3 colours the Romanians have are known as "the boring colours". blue being the sky, red being the blood and yellow being virtue. and yeah, they have basis in historical flags and are attributed to regions as well(wallachia-blue, moldavia-red, transylvania-yellow). rep. Moldova is Romanian land so it has the tricolour, the local auroch animal and the all-Romanian encompassing animal, the eagle.(during the Dacian times it was the wolf. though the eagle was also important)

@pitonsti 2 ай бұрын
Here we go again... It might sound surprising but Moldova IS a part of Romania already. There is no such state nor country as Moldova. It simply doesn't exist. It's what Russia wants you all to believe. The principality of Moldova (what was left of it after it was carved by neighbouring empires) united with Valahia in 1859 to form the skeleton of the modern state of Romania. Republic of Moldova is the ex MSSR - a pseudo state created on the 2nd of August 1940 by the soviets on Romanian land occupied and illegally annexed. Even in its own constitution it clearly says REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA specifically to avoid any ambiguity and legal issues, as Moldova is a much bigger historical region and its legacy entirely belongs to Romania. Therefore even if its form of rule changes into monarchy in the future, it still will be called REPUBLIC OF MOLODVA. By trying to keep it simple, the world just further complicates it.

Romanian here. The blue, yellow and red colors of the flag have a very, very old meaning going back to the Dacians and their mythology. The Dacians, of course, had the famous "dracones" flag (later adopted by the Romans as the "draco"), which is the snake with the head of a wolf and it was painted in the same colors. The Romanian tricolor represents the cycle of life. Dawn, noon and dusk, or rather birth, life and death. The Dacians had a very interesting belief on the cycle of life, they mourned when a child was born and celebrated when someone died, because they viewed life as a "struggle," a difficult and painful chore given by the heavens that every man had to do for a time, before earning the right to die and go to the afterlife. So, in their worldview, births were sad and death was seen as good, it was when your labors ended, you fulfilled your spiritual duties and now you get to go to the afterlife and rest and find happiness. The Romanian flag harkens back to that belief and mythology. Also, if you've ever wondered why Romanians are so cynical and nihilistic, this is why. That ancient mythology still carries on to this day in the cultural subconscious, a belief that life is evil and death is good. Fun bit of additional trivia: When there were natural disasters, plagues, famines, or wars, the ancient Dacians would first shoot arrows at the sky as a warning to their god (Zalmoxis, the Dacians were monotheists). If the warning went unheeded, they would hold this athletic competition to select the strongest, toughest, meanest warrior and then they'd sacrifice him by throwing him off a ledge onto a bed of spears. They did this not to appease the god, but to send someone up there to beat him up until he stopped whatever natural disaster he was inflicting on the people. Yeah, we Romanians are that badass.

I'd like to add which isn't explained the red and yellow are residues to the Roman Legions who founded Romania.Their flags are red and yellow bars which have the same origin as Aragon and Catalunia. The Legions also used the eagle at the head of their troops. The bull has it's links to the Hellenistic bull to which the horns became the symbol of constantinople, as the myth states to the region. The borbon blue I'm not certain about but someone with better historical knowledge to the French Court early on could advice. The ishtar moon and sun are also residue connections to the the tribes of the golden horde, the cumars, khazacts etc from the steps with their influence from haraapa and mesopotemia. The latter evolution which is well explained in the video, but doesn't go to the origins of the area. Hope this brief explanation helps.

Since you said 'dutch' I will give you a pass as dutch history is underrated to what it deserves in grandeur. Small notes in addition: 1. The Kingdom of Moldova used to be for the better part of the millennium the now romanian moldova region and Basarabia stretched to the Black sea as it is natural, with the now ukrainian side not being very populated due to geography. The problem is that when the russian tzars pacified Crimeea and general Ukraine, they were on a highroll and outright annexed half of the Kingdom of Moldova. That triggered the Cuza event and unification of the rest of free Moldova with Valachia (valachia is some medieval german mumbojumbo, it was always called locally, Romanian Country in annals). 2. Out goes the tzar and in with the red scare during WW1. The Kingdom of Romania had a ruling monarchy, government and international recognition by all the top dogs and even the bankrupt Ottoman Empire. So Basarabia went apeshit and voted to rejoin historical romanian lands as they also were more on the white russian side (they had a target on them like the ukrainians). 3. The oil fraternity between Romania and the Z guys got the J guys going apeshit, and since they backed the soviet occupation of Basarabia a few years prio despite the ukrainian holodomors next door, they did all they could to undermine the romanian national government. The guys doing on the streets what the Z guys were doing in their home (assasination of politicians regardless of ethnicity and everything bad imaginable on the streets directed mainly on the J guys), god destroyed by the Dictator and were forced to seek asylum with the Z guys. So easy there tiger with the blame train, its not 100% black and white but those were the times and no sane person wants too ever see again in Europe

As a romanian I dont have a problem that other countries have the same flag as ours; if we like the same thing why should we change for the sake of “different national flags”? Like the point of the actual world isnt it to be global, everyone the same, with the same rights and value? Tell me if Im wrong.

The Romanian coat of arms include the auroch head, so why should they be jealous of the Moldovan flag?😂 You do realise the Moldovans adopted the Romanian flag, but with only Moldova's coat of arms, when it became independent after the fall of the Soviet Union? P.S. check the Romanian coat of arms, its very cool.

Weird thing: the horizontal flag has the red on top. So according to the heraldic rules when they switched to vertical design, red should have been put on the left and blue on the right 🤔

Red, yellow - colours of Rome. Plus blue - Legio XIII Gemina located in Alba Iulia (Apullum), the only rroman legion which had blue shields! Aquila - from Rome also! The North castrum at Potaissa was ocupied by Legio VII Claudia Pia Fidelis - them standard was a yellow bull on red a red flag - from that region Dragos whent to Moldova, he was the head of the romanian population in nortth Transilvania, the head of the bull! You have to start your heraldic from long time ago! The Gemina had a heraldic sign a lion. Rome payd it's legions witth coins having the averse the emperor and the reverse with the legion marking, in this case a lion. The romanian name for money IS LION! Everybody want to prove things which are very complicated, when the unswer is so simple! Just open your mind!
