Chattanooga doesn't have a paint show anymore from what I remember, so more then likely they just repaired the damage and quickly painted the nose black. Probably won't get a proper paint job until it goes in for an overhaul in Altoona.
@rc39199510 ай бұрын
An overhaul really ? They don't even change the oil out . Overhaul I don't know about that one unless they have changed the way they do business . they run them till they don't run anymore . Then they might over haul it sell it scrap it or whatever goes through their mind at that moment .

This is what I like to think: The shop forman sends it into paint and says, "Just paint the nose and send it out!" The painters scratch their heads for a moment and say to each other, "We were told to paint it!" "By the way, we have an entire paint booth and all of the colors under the sun!" says one sassy apprentice. Paint forperson says, "Just paint it!" Paint shop replies, "Yep. We'll get get it painted and on the tracks tomorrow!" And a historic nose appears!

I see this must be the first video uploaded since the CTA Yellow Line in Chicago was finally back in service 10 days ago following that crash and derailment that was a couple months ago. I’m still wondering what happened with that damaged train car no. 5599 or what will happen with it, even though it’s in a pair with car no. 5600. I heard the weather currently isn’t good in that city and the Orange Line had a minor derailment this morning which uses 2600 series CTA rail cars, the oldest ones.

Ok now I see you answered your own question but I was going to speculate an answer to your question . Having worked on the RR for forty years and was working for the old southern railway when the merger took place . The stallion on the nose of the engine become a target for pranksters , some foamers and sometimes disgruntled NS employees. The stallion became a target and mysteriously over night the stallion would acquire a certain appendage the company was not happy about at all . these engines with the newly acquired appendage on the stallion was painted over immediately with black spray paint and was sent back to the diesel shop in Chattanooga at the first convince for that particular locomotive and the stallion was once again reapplied properly . Now I just seen the title of the video and thought I may have the answer . obviously you had the correct answer for that situation . But what I just described was at one time an issue and I know it happened more than once. You asked.

NS and BNSF seem to do heritage units the best. CSX on the other hand, seems to half-a&& them.
@randallellison642110 ай бұрын
BNSF only has the 25th anniversary ES44ACs which really aren't heritage units. Other units just simply have yet to be repainted because the Railroad simply doesn't want to spend money on a repaint unless the unit gets a major overhaul, at which point, it'll most like be repainted into BNSF's current scheme. From what I've heard, BNSF has 0 desire to do heritage units.

Totally expendable if and when an accident happens.. scrap it, get another one. New ones sell as quickly as Toyota Camrys’ 1000/year.. roughly..old ones are sometimes rebuilt but if involved in an accident, it’s just a write off just like any other business would do.

I had an uncle that worked there many years ago. He welded the pilots onto the front of the engines. I remember getting to go into the plant for an open house when I was a child. They had a brand new engine (Dash 8 of some sort) sitting outside that we could all walk in.

I’m union (UE506) and we have been on strike twice since this company took over, they don’t even turn the heat on in the buildings in the winter, anything to save a buck!…bunch of tight wads!..and they make billions. if it wasn’t for my “fair wage”, I’d be out of here and never look back!
