In 1980 we sailed SW from Galopagos to get into the trades ASAP, and then had a fine 23 day ride to the Marguesas. (Our full-keel boat was slow, but comfortable.) On the second day out, our son saw a number of pilot whales approaching from the north. Keeping the story short, we were surrounded by pilot whales from horizon to horizon for the next several hours. Clearly they were migrating south for the season. They came close to us, but never contacted the boat. Yes, the fishing boats had helicopters back then too. We really enjoy your videos - AND your beautiful children! Please keep them safe..........

I have a cd player and when I go to sleep I play a cd called "Thundering Rainstorm", it"s an hour long but I'm asleep in just a few minutes. So I'm guessing you miss the rain hitting the roof in Victoria for so much of your life, you could try listening to rain falling. It's called the "Wet Coast" for a reason. I've been following your journey for several years and like thousands of others fell in love with Willa, panicked when she had her allergic reaction and Ashley so calmly used the epi pen and saved her and then along came Bodhi and you shared your life and little angels with all of us. Thanks and stay safe.

Just think with hybrid motors you could have used 250-350 liters instead of 500. Having 1 diesel engine running while the other is using electric motor. also with big enough battery bank 90kw-120kw total means when its low wind and sunny you could do both electric motors for 4-6 hours a day using the sun energy. On your new boat if you are adding light weight solar get Yuma aka Cigs panels as they last 25 years and perform excellent compared to those cheap ones. I have solar and batteries on my house and 60kw is a nice start, I want 90kw and another 5kw of solar panels. With a hybrid you can run both engines for an hour to add 10-20kw into battery banks. So for every 3 hours running them you can electric motor for 4-6 hours. many options and fuel savings. To replace the added weigh of more batteries leave water tanks 50% full when sailing. Also have 1/3rd less diesel onboard.

You might know this already. When you look at a sunset the sun has already been down for about 30 minutes. You are seeing a refracted image of the sun setting further from your location.

My hubby did a solo trip up the east coast of Australia a few years ago, the whales were plentiful, he was under sail during the day, however at night he had to switch motors on so as whales would hear his vessel as they swam all around him. Also a yacht in the recent Syd To Gold Coast Race had a device fitted to his keel which sounded a Ping warning to ward off the whales in the night. It would be interesting to learn if it was successful vs a yacht without the device. Ben a few years ago, there was a boat fishing like this in Australian waters, when the general public found out there was an uproar as to why they were allowed to remove our fish life (Tuna) in large numbers, large Corporations and Governments deals ??
