I’m 27…. I know, I’m supposed to have had this done years ago. But I have medical trama, I was 3 years old and had a medical team hold me down while shoving a speculum up me because of some uti’s I had. I hope we start sedating or giving children anxiety medication for these procedures. I have control issues and the thought of someone doing this to me is so scary and violating. I don’t know if I I’ll ever have the courage to get tested for cervical cancer. Unless I’m on my death bed.

Some doctors are egomaniacs. They try to make things complex in order for others to see how smart they are. Pap smear for UTI is completely unnecessary, I think. Cause for UTI, Urine analysis is done. I don't know what those quacks were thinking. I hope everything is well now.

Hymen is the thin layer of skin at the entrance of the vagina so yeah if would be broken if you place speculum in that is hymen remains intact it could be broken with physical activities. Hymen sometimes for it's nature has holes already it could be divided in 2 or even having multiple holes 🤷🏻♀️ so what if the break it.

@ellaneruda Жыл бұрын
Reach out to your provider. An allergic reaction typically would not last 2 weeks since the allergen would no longer be present. It is possible you have an infection and you should get evaluated as soon as you can.

do you have to get it? is there any other way? what if ur a lesbian virgin like me does the have anything to do with it??
@zennie802225 күн бұрын
It's unfortunately not for any sexual related illnesses, it's to test for cervical cancer. It's highly recommended that you get them every three years as an adult but you absolutely do not have to if you feel uncomfortable. I will say it's an important and quick procedure as cervical cancer has to be caught early on to be properly treated and waiting to see symptoms can be fatal, it happened to my great grandmother. I'm a victim of SA so things like these will always be hard for me, but it is super important to do and I believe in you 💕
@TheBestQueerGurl25 күн бұрын
@ ty is there any other way to test for cancer? and are there any symptoms? how common is it? and will it hurt if that layer of skin or smtg isn’t broken
@zennie802225 күн бұрын
@TheBestQueerGurl I'm not a doctor so this is all only based on research I've done; 1) I don't think there's a non-invasive way to check for cervical cancer, I'm not super sure though. 2) Patients with cervical cancer can experience a range of symptoms from having no symptoms at all to having pelvic pain, pain during sex, abnormal periods (time or flow), abnormal discharge, and with most cancers you will probably experience fast and extreme weight loss, nausea and fatigue. 3) Cervical cancer is "the 4th most common cancer in women," so it's less likely than breast cancer but it could still happen. The average percentage (from what I read) is between 15-20% of women, or ROUGHLY 11,000 new diagnosis a year. Don't let that freak you out though!! While it's a huge number you have to remember there's millions of people in the world. Could happen to anyone. It's more likely in people who have a family history with cancer, have had other cancers themselves, or (I believe) are having unsafe sex. 4) I haven't had one yet myself, but from other people it seems to vary person to person based on pain tolerance and things like that. I can't imagine that the breaking of the skin would hurt any worse than losing your virginity though, I wouldn't worry too much about the pain of the skin breaking. I imagine it will be a little uncomfortable but not super bad. I hope this helps and you absolutely DO NOT have to worry!! Find a good doctor that will take the best care of you as they can, and makes you comfortable. Also remember that this is a choice you make when you feel ready, and it's ok to never feel that way. Stay safe

@@katekile2287 yes even virgins. of course you are allowed to refuse as it’s your body and you don’t have to get anything done you don’t want to! but cervical cancer can sneak up on absolutely anyone unfortunately:/ virginity has nothing to do with it. i’d say the only thing that gives an advantage to is less chance of HPV which they also test for. i had my first one two weeks ago and i was so afraid but it was over in like two minutes and my doctor was soooo nice and talked me through every single step. she gave me a real sense of control and don’t ever forget you can ask them to stop too!

update lol, it really wasn’t all that bad. the speculum was actually the least painful part of it, and there are multiple sizes you can ask for! the only part that even resembled any pain was when they put the tip of the soft cell collector just a little bit in the hole of the cervix. but even then, its more just annoying and it’s over after 10 seconds. i just scrunched my toes, and deep breathed and it was over before i knew it! i can’t believe i was so scared
