How exactly do you calculate odds from (2) intervals, that are for example 600,000 and 700,000 years ago, meaning it could erupt "between" 600-700k years, the last eruption was ~640k years ago. So, what are the odds? Depends if your a "half glass empty or half glass full" type of person. One could say, it has 60k more years to go! Or it's 40k years overdue. Honestly, I've been studying Yellowstone as a side-hobby since 2003, and the new scientist-in-charge at YVO is saying what he does because you need to understand he probably has 100's of people every month emailing him asking if Yellowstone is going to erupt. So by now he's so burned out on it, he makes convincing videos about how Yellowstone isn't anywhere near an eruption. The truth? He is JUST AS WRONG as all those people spouting off saying Yellowstone will erupt, because NOBODY can predict or say for sure. You really have to look at what's happening NOW, what's going on CURRENTLY. And when I say currently, I mean in geologic terms. With a volcano this large and eruptions on such vast time scales, how does Yellowstone look TODAY, and how would a Supervolcano appear in its time, say several hundred years before eruption? There's another Supervolcano similar to Yellowstone located over in Sumatra called "Toba Supervolcano" and it also erupts every 700k years or so. The last eruption was 74k years ago and today, you can't even tell there's a volcano underneath! There's MAYBE 2-3 thermal features and they are SMALL little hot springs. Now let's look at Yellowstone: - 10,000 thermal features, largest collection of volcanic features in one area than any other place in the WORLD - 90% of the WORLDS geysers exist here - the LARGEST geysers in the WORLD exist here

The chance of an eruption is remote in our life time but not impossible, it is in fact overdue, depending on the severity of the event it would prove catastrophic to the entire world, possibly an ELE, A large portion of North America would become uninhabitable and say goodbye to agriculture not just in Canada and the US but Europe as well due to a volcanic winter that would last years perhaps decades, those that survive the initial mayhem directly after would eventually die of starvation, within 5 years about 80 percent of the population maybe more would be gone, The movie The Road pretty much explains the outcome, scarry stuff so live and be merry because you never know

I heard someone say that about a year ago and I thought, "are you crazy?" Here they were saying the scientific community were researching it! All I can picture is a shaken bottle of soda pop and someone punch a hole in that bottle with an ice pick and see what happens.
