It was over 45 years now that I read a little gospel tract which explained how ALL have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God! I saw myself as guilty, deserving of Hell while reading the Scripture in the tract! I was terrified! I knew I could not pay the debt of sin I owed God! What was the decisive cause of your faith in Christ? The Calvinist says "The cause of my faith was Christ." The Arminian says "The cause of my faith in Christ was myself." There's way more to it than that (Depravity,Election, Atonement,New birth, perseverance,naming faith,etc), but the original question definitely identifies which "camp" one subscribes to. Both are biblically based. Both rely on scripture to form a differing perspective (and somewhat opposing view) with either viewpoint, the other can always point to scripture and say "yea,but what about THIS?" Both believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. I don't believe either have lost salvation because of it. I prefer to understand what I can of each and move on without firmly planting my feet in either camp. Are those that attack him so righteous as to also say "ALL protestants or ALL Catholics" are lost? I cannot. It's so horribly sad that the vast majority of people are lost and living in spiritual darkness! I once was lost, too, but Jesus had grace and mercy on my wicked soul and chose me to be His child! It's 2024, and I'm doing my fourth Bible read-through. This time more than previous times, as I read in the Old Testament how God promised to take revenge on disobedient, faithless nations, I see the current nations of this world, most especially the US -- my nation. It's fine to be open minded as long as one's mind is open to the right things. A true Christian condemns the many evil things to which so many Americans -- in the name of open mindedness -- are readily bowing. Whenever I'm in a group that's preparing to pray and asks for special requests, I ask that we pray for our nation to recover from its faithlessness. Sometimes I get a sideways glance. I don't care. I know for what I'm praying. This message reminds me that I should be praying for my own salvation as well.

I’ve had the same experience - of getting sideways glances - when in prayer groups I’ve asked the group to pray over the faithlessness in our nation. Like you, I didn’t care though, because I knew the Lord had called me to be an intercessor for America during the tumultuous time before our recent election. So I prayed diligently, in and out of different prayer groups, and it seems our Almighty Father God has granted us some measure of forgiveness, if only temporarily. Now, through prayer, the Lord guided me to this message, out of which comes the guidance that, just as it’s been important for me to stand in the gap these past few months, now it’s time for me to focus on praying for my own salvation. Good sermon. Aside from the most obvious, being in Hell and forever being separated from God is the worst thing I can think of. I love my Abba, Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Paul did call out false teachers and doctrines such as his letter to the Galatians and setting the church in Thessaloniki back on track after some dodgy stuff floating around. John goes hard in Revelation of some of the church in Asia. Later on Irenaeus wrote Ahainst Herecies. So issues need to be addressed. People can believe what they want and do, even if those beliefs rely too much on allegory and historical revisionism rather than the plain reading of the text in context and wha the first church believed fir the first two centuries.

Hell, as you seem to picture it, serves no purpose whatsoever. It's a place of torture for torture's sake. Punishment is supposed to be a tool which reforms, humbles and ultimately improves a person. Hell does no such thing if there is no chance of escape. It's not even logically possible to "earn" an eternity of punishment for crimes committed in a finite mortal life.

The debt for rejecting Jesus is simply unpayable, and so unpayable it is that even spending all eternity in hell, they will never pay it off. That is why they will spend all eternity there. To sum it all up, as precious and infinitely priceless is the blood of Jesus as infinitely unpayable is the punishment for rejecting it. That’s why the eternal punishment.

@@jayonnaj18 l am a Presbyterian. And I am not hating on you, you are nondenominational because you feel that it is right. But I think it's ok to be in a denomination also. Christian denominations have differing viewpoints, but not on matters that are crucial to salvation. Romans 14 talks about how some Christians have differing views because they are fully convinced in their mind of it. For example, some Christians may not think drinking is wrong, and that is ok, because that is not a gospel issue. However, the one who thinks it is not wrong should also not judge the one that thinks it is (not to say you're judging just to be clear:) ). Romans 14:5 specifically is the verse I am referring to. So like you could say that denominations are in the Bible because Paul acknowledges in Romans 14 that Christians have differing views on some things (which is what a denomination is essentially 🙂). I guess I just feel like we shouldn’t be calling one another out for being in a denomination and vice versa. You can be non-denominational, I totally respect that. But being in one is not wrong. What I find difficult to understand is where the concept of hell as eternal concept torment comes from. It is not a word found in the Bible but a word imposed as a catch all for a variety of different Hebrew/Greek words none of which point to endless constant torment. It is in fact a philosophical concept not found in the preaching of the Apostles recorded in Acts. Jesus spoke of Gehenna (wrongly translated hell) and proclaimed he came to seek and to save that which was lost. We must not simply accept the teachings of any leader without considering it in the context of the whole teaching of Scripture and I do not find 'hell' as described here in the Gospel. This was a concept alien to many of the early Church Fathers and results in undermining the beauty of God's character as revealed in Jesus Christ producing a fear of God that engendering terror but not awe and thankfulness. 'Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the Sin of the World'.

Hell is a concept that you have been taught in church with no substance in Scripture. In Acts there are about 17 occasions where the Gospel is presented to individuals or groups. The threat of eternal constant torment cannot be found in any of them. I think perhaps you need to read Scripture more closely and study what the early Church Fathers taught regarding Christ's passion. Grace and Peace.

I assume folks of all viewpoints examine the basis of their beliefs regularly as they are faced with experiences and circumstances that may conflict with their fundamental beliefs. With the availability of faith almost any inconsistency can be explained away. The same still small voice that leads one person to shift one way leads the next person to shift the other way. That is why there are dozens of schisms in Christendom with each group certain they have the correct interpretation. That is why there appears to be a falling away. Folks start concluding there is no there there and leave it behind in exchange for their own spirituality.

I am absolutely flummoxed at you people. Didn't you listen to what he said? His Calvinistic theology gave him ZERO assurance of his salvation. ZERO. Listen again at the 38 minute mark. He said, AS CLEARLY AS CAN BE STATED, he may very well be deceiving himself in thinking he is one of 'the elect' (Calvinist version). O Calvinist, abandon your horrible religion and turn instead to the Lord Jesus Christ, who wants ALL to come to Himself. He TRULY died FOR EVERY PERSON.....but YOU have to choose to receive the precious gift He is offering. Believe and receive. Once you do, you can be assured that you are in His Hands, for He has then saved you, and then you can have ABSOLUTE ASSURANCE that you will be with Him forever, and not ever taste the fiery pits of hell.

Of course all men ought to choose God but until by his grace he gives us a will and a desire to choose him we will not. If you stand before God on judgement day and defend yourself on the basis of “I CHOSE YOU” then you will go to hell as sure as the worst atheist. You must rely only on his work, what he did on your behalf and the work he did you in conversion that caused you to choose him at all.

As Paul says “there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God” Romans 3:11. This is because we choose according to our greatest desire. I could choose to eat a food I despise but I won’t, it is the same with our choice of faith. In our fallen state, God is never our greatest desire, but by the work of the Holy Spirit we have our heart of stone removed and are given a heart of flesh, a heart that’s greatest desire though not perfect is to have faith in Christ and to love him.

Such misinformation. Hell is simply the grave where we stay until judgment day. When the unsaved are resurrected they're judged before going to the lake of fire. And jude 1:7 tells us Sodom and Gomorrah were set as an example of what's to come for those who live wickedly. 2 peter 2:6 says they were burned up and turned into ashes. That's the truth about it..there's no burning forever, ETC.

Imagine doing signs and wonders as a born-again Christian and having Jesus say I never knew you. I wish people would preach scripture in context using proper exegesis. Who was Jesus speaking to when he said that "Did we not many signs in your name?" Christians? No! Jesus speaking to unsaved people. Remember, on a couple of occasions, for example, he sent out disciples such as the 72 and the 12, and they came back saying the same thing, and yet none of them were born again. In fact, when Jesus said that if you don't drink my blood and eat my flesh, you can't be part of me. So departed. They did signs and wonders through delegated power, but they were not saved. Look at Judus. He was sent out with the 12, and he did signs and wonders, and yet he was lost. Jesus said that if you deny me before men, I will deny you before my father in heaven and before the Holy angels. Look at unsaved Peter at Jesus' arrest who denied knowing Jesus three times and yet was one of the greatest apostles in the book of Acts. Nobody could be born again until the precious blood of Jesus was shed on that cruel cross. Covenants are ratified through the shedding of blood. If you are saved, then Jesus can not say to you I never knew you or he would be lying and going against his word. And we know Jesus doesn't lie don't we!

One thing Kant overlooked in his description of the Nominal vs the Phenomenal is that the Nominal cannot pierce or understand the Phenomenal , true. God is "transcendent" of His creation and beyond it's discovery. When we die everything we are will go to the fire or worm. The machinery which works our senses will decay and disappear. Then how on earth will we see or feel or think thereafter? Heaven is a mental escape route for those too afraid of a world which is unpredictable and in which awful things happen. But life’s true route is acceptance of our inevitable fate and a love of our neighbour that makes life not only bearable but also joyful. Thereby the end is the real beginning.
