Not more responsive, more uncontrollable unless in the hands of an actual trained professional driver.
@ryfodrea8 жыл бұрын
It makes the throttle a bit less responsive when you accelerate from a stop to avoid wheel spin. It helps you get a better start if you're racing... but once ur going, I think traction control is better to have on because it also makes sure you dont over do the steering.
@user-rl4go8lo4m8 жыл бұрын
Doesn't make a difference to pulling away, traction control slows the wheels down, slowing the car down, with it off you just spin the wheels with barely any traction, but the gallardo comes with launch control which allows some wheelspin but controls it to gain maximum grip.

Just let go the wheel when things get hairy? It is rather 'against every sense possible' yes, but since way before electronic stability control, it has been one of the more effective ways of saving it. The trick is to know when to let go, and when to get in charge again, and the problem with that, is if you know stuff like that, you most likely wouldn't have lost control in the first place.

@RysieX2674 жыл бұрын
@@MrTacticalGiant I don't know if it would actually work in normal circumstances or in a FWD car, but this technique is often used in drifting. They tend to turn the wheel, accelerate hard, release it briefly (the car will basically countersteer by itself) and further control it from that point. Then you can lessen the turn to slide more or leave it where it is, and the car will either straighten out (if you straighten the weel in time) or slide the other way (if you don't). From my personal experience, you will just feel when it's time to straighten the wheel, it simply takes some practice. Just be sure not to try it out on a public road, and remember that you have to control the gas pedal as well ;)
@bourbonbuzzin27787 жыл бұрын
ESP and TC are two different things but operate off the same wheel speed sensors along with ABS. TC cuts power while detecting wheel slippage while ESP applies brakes to various wheels individually, assisting in straightening the car back up while sliding.
@Srinivas7 Жыл бұрын
Is it possible for a car to have only ESP without TC?
@MiloFPS8 жыл бұрын
This is why professional racing is so overwhelming to 97% of people because everyone takes for granted ABS, traction control and steering assist, so going as fast as possible without all these, and using manual gear shifts every second, requires focus, multitasking and practice that is second to none

Should be titled "What happens when you turn the stability control system off" (never do this ) Traction control systems are designed prevent excessive wheel spin on acceleration and there are a few situations (honestly never encountered in a car like this) like climbing a grade in wet snow or a surface like mud where a skilled driver could make progress only with the traction control off or set to allow more slip (and the smarts to not loop the car into solid objects by controlling wheel spin and holding reasonable speed) most of the deaths in older supercars are caused by the exact issues shown above and even a highly skilled driver can not react and counter the issues of physics that electronic stability control system can handle ,(unless the car had method of side to side independent brake control with abs that the driver had direct reactive control over and I still drought they would be fast enough) ,, in truth the future will see 4 wheel reactive torque vectoring control systems (some of the 4 motor electric cars like the Rimac concept one already showcase them,, because these systems don't have to pulse control the brakes applying instant precise counter torque with an electric motor they can counter react faster "and" also change a cars "dynamic road handling response as well" the only time one would turn stability control off is when one had had the "intent" to demonstrate some skilled showcase driving that required an intentionally unstabilized car in a controlled environment. (a race track, not on public roads)

+Allrock123 i agree, most of the time etc and esc is confused for some reason and on a good note most cars that alow you to turn of esc it is only turning off etc and the only way to disable esc is pulling the relays for the abs system witch you should never do unless it is in a shop and you are testing things.
@allrock12388 жыл бұрын
There are evolutions to ESC that run well above the use of brakes ,, into whats called "intelligent Torque Vectoring" these systems can apply power or braking force dynamically over a hundred times a second,(usually using an electric motor driving each wheel) simply search rimac torque vectoring, give the car the ability to sense road position in relation to other cars and objects on might collide with these systems can use power to spin the car on its access and use vectored power even at extreme angles.

I kinda think the autocar host should already know that rack and pinion steering cars (as a unintended side effect) auto correct a slide, or fishtail. You can literally let go of the steering wheel, and it seemely magically does the right thing, and the car straightens out. The front wheels are simply facing the direction that provides the least resistance, which happens to be in the direction of the mass of the vehicle, which is usually straight.

you have a point. his choice of a lambo is not innocent, mid-engined cars are by definition more difficult to balance at the limit, they snap from one situation to another very quickly. On the highway, definitely keep your esp on. But on a twisty road, if you know what you are doing... The speeds are slower anyway, and you're braking before the corners, you balance the weight transfer, you're more in control than you think, and definitely more in control than when you're cruising on a highway.

If there is a criticism of the handling, it’s that when you really start to lean on the 560-4 in a quick corner, the nose does have a tendency to run wide. A very well-timed lift will make the nose tuck in and possibly even allow a dose of oversteer with the ESP disengaged but, in essence, there’s a natural degree of understeer engineered into the chassis that mostly adds to the 560’s civility. Seems legit.

No it doesn't. 2005 STI's do not have any electronic aids apart from ABS. The closest to TC you have is the Auto setting on the DCCD since it varys torque bias front to rear. Sometimes a car will snap straight on it's own just because things went correctly for it to do so, not because an electronic aid kicked in. As long as the front wheels remain straight they will drag the back end in so long as you're not going really fast.

I'm still in favor of no ESP. When I drive without the autoaids I feel more in control of the car in that I get more feedback from my driving inputs. Not to knock people who love to drive with the ESP on all the time; but I perfer to learn and understand what the CAR wants to do not what the Engineer wants the car to tell me.

when there is a big road and its completely empty try switching it off and do some swerves at low speeds. see how it reacts.

There's lots of systems with different acronyms, but the one you kept saying ("ESP") wasn't the same as what the button on the car said ("ETC"). Was this an honest mistake, or does the system in question have two different terms for the same thing?
@DexRares8 жыл бұрын
It is ESP but with another acronym, yes. On the BMW i think it is called DTC, but it does exactly the same thing.

Both are same systems with different name. ESP - Electronic Stabilisation Program. ESC- Electronic Stabilisation Control.

BMW's DTC is something else. DTC stands for dynamic traction control and lets the wheels slip more.
@U2Jaime13178 жыл бұрын
on my car its just called stability control and traction control is called.... traction control.

Off the gas, clutch in, counter steer, keep wheels pointed the direction the car is going. If that fails, you done for.

Well it's paddle shift. What clutch?
@user-rl4go8lo4m8 жыл бұрын
well there is a clutch but you can't use it.

You forgot gentle brake.
@user-rl4go8lo4m8 жыл бұрын
Braking even lightly while sideways could lock up the wheels even with ABS
@nickydrifts8 жыл бұрын
Yes, forget the brakes in this case. And Some gallardo's are stick while others are E-Gear, so I guess with an E-gear just flick both paddles to get into neutral.

Why did the car refuse to start after the spin? Did the engine get damaged?

I lost traction in my car on wet leaves going round a L - corner. Foot off accelerator, (NO BRAKE) followed skid with steering, took hands off steering wheel like Steve did when wheel suddenly snapped back to centre as the wheels regained traction due to car being same speed as wheels again. Drove away. Oh and that was in my trusty $1000AUD 1985 Toyota Seca Hatchback front wheel drive with 50 kg of tools in the back :P

i would have liked to have seen the ESP correct without you letting go of the wheel. when a "driver" panics, all controls are frozen in place, and/or the brakes come on. as a skidpad instructor, i have seen amazing things accomplished by ESP, but all the engineering in the world, can't overcome a rotational inertia that overpowers the grip of the tires. the most impressive automatic spin recoveries i've seen are from Mercedes. but if you throw them hard enough, they will spin violently.
