You as a consumer have to remember that the dealer giving you a "discount" on a model year leftover is no bargain. The vehicle is one model year older and has depreciated in value, even though it is "brand new". So, you have to go beyond the depreciation to get a good price.

A used car lot in my area has a 2020 Toyota Corolla sitting on his lot for 2.5 years with an asking price of over $26,200 as he's asking more for that used car than when it was brand new. I'm not at all interested in that car as the only reason I'm watching it is that it blows my mind that he's not dropping the price on a now almost 5 year old car, and can't figure out how this is cost effective for the dealer as it sits on his lot rusting away.

During the 08-09 financial crises I went to my local Ford dealer to see f I could score a deal on their GT 500 mustangs they had a nice white with blue stripes on the showroom and it was a no go ! Not only would they not agree to a below sticker price but instead insisted they could get over sticker and he proceeded to take me to the back of the store where they kept vehicles and he had about a dozen or so mustang GT’s and 500’s and told me they’d mothballed and will try to get above asking when the crises blows over …Needless to say I didn’t budge either but I found very interesting when sales were waaay down they weren’t the least bit concerned with cutting a deal and my credit was and is superb and I make good living but they didn’t care one bit !

The move towards complexity has been a long slow march, well underway since way before climate politics became the latest whipping bill. In fact we were complaining about how computerized and complex automobiles had become, how they were nearly impossible to repair yourself, and how they were less durable what with the explosion of cheap plastic parts everywhere.. -literally over twenty years ago. . There are two long-term drivers of this long running trend: 1) competition: keeping up with latest features, bells and whistles and max power/performance, and the technology and complexity that comes along with that. 2) managed product lifecycle: manufacturers intentionally designing to shorter expected product lifecycle, increasing the frequency of recurring new sales. This is done by cheapening up many parts, and a million other ways to limit the time vehicles remain economically viable to own. I can tell you the automakers are thrilled that everyone ridiculously believes 'climate politics' to be the villain , when in reality the villain is the manufacturers themselves...

When I graduated high school in 1979 my dad bought me a new 78 rabbit diesel that was in the back of the lot and he got 25% off. I had that car for 30 years and averaged 48-53 mpg. 78 was the last year it was made in Germany. It was so cheap to drive. It did me good.

Didn't even have a radio. Just 4 speed manual and no turbo. Plain seats. No rear defrost. I added a bunch of stuff throughout the years. I got from the junk yard a new hatch door with a defrost window grid. I got a delay wiper switch and relay. Bla punk stereo. Etc

You should have also included that when you go to buy that car that's been sitting on a lot for a year or more which my wife and I did years ago with a Honda Odyssey minivan the stealership tried to spin the loan to the full price as if it was brand new. They pulled the old send us into the veteran sales manager to make the deal. After my wife and I picked him apart for a while he realized we were not fools and we left.

The Banks don't want the cars, just the money. They will offer dealerships incentives also. Consumers don't always get those offered by the banks. Expensive anyway so Banks could offer directly to consumers to put them in vehicles but decide not to. Great video and information.

Here is a question. What if a car manufacturer delivered a car to a buyer direct from the factory. The car company would only have locations where you can pick up your car but they do not have any unsold cars on the lot. How much would that reduce the price of the car. They could design the car such that any independent car repair shop could fix it with spare parts available online. Could that reduce the price of a care 30%, 40% etc. Think of all the cost to operate a dealership that would be eliminated (those costs get passed on to the buyer). The pick up location could also have test drive cars so customer could drive and look at car before placing online order. Could that be a game changer business model for buying a car.

In an ideal world, yes. But in the real world, no. Such as if you’re a business owner & operating for 50 yrs then you know what works best for you, no one should tell you how to run your business. Car manufacturers has their business model which works best for them, they constantly try to juggle profits, outputs, demands, competition, cost, new trends, laws and supply chain issues. Their #1 goal is to sell, to look good on Wall st, keeping their stock holders happy first. They have a much larger picture than what we see.

Ive been in car sales for 18 years so I can answer this question. They get moved around to different dealerships, They sit on the lot until someone comes in a dire situation and the GM heavily discounts the car. Clever customers come in with the upper hand who researched the VIN and offer cash. So many scenarios but they all do end up selling. Banks will never allow cars to just go to some brand new graveyard. If you’re looking for the best deal make sure you shop around online and consider out of state dealers as well.

I'm a security officer and work at the BNSF railyard and auto lot in Northern Illinois and the auto lot is the size of at least 2 stealership lots and the lot is almost constantly full of trucks picking up and dropping off vehicles and the trains also are picking up and dropping off vehicles and after watching your great videos, I wonder to myself "why are they moving so many vehicles when the stealerships aren't selling them??💁♀️🤷🤷

These vehicles have so much BS on them with complicated electronics, turbos, CVT transmissions and other things that I would never buy them no matter how much they reduced them. 2004 is as new as I would ever go. My newest is a Saturn Vue 5 speed, 4 cylinder with 230,000 miles and I love it and I looked a long time to find it and it's from the South. What do you think?

We have,a 2004 toyota suv ,81 k miles on it, did some maintenance, painting, undercoating the vehicle drives like near bran new for less than 20% of a new one. Today's vehicle quality is absolute garbage, very cheaply built that will last to the end of the warranty period before thousands of dollars worth the work will be needed ,let alone the huge depreciation and insurance costs. were done with new vehicles, it's way cheaper to maintain what you have.

By dead reliable I mean for at least 60 per cent of the life of the vehicle or more. It used to be that many engine/trans combinations would last 2 to 300,000 miles without a major problem.

The dealers or more so the manufacturer don't give a sh8t about selling the old stock at car grave yard prices. Most dealers don't actually own the inventory but rather operate on a floor plan financing option where the cars are basically under consignment or sorts from either the financial institution or manufacturer. The new car dealership monopoly is a total scam.

Many would look two or three times and each time their head snapped back but less each time, like they were getting immune or something.

Oils sitting for a long time in a sealed system (transmission & motor) do not go away! The reason for 5,000 miles or a year is. If the person put only 200 - 300 miles on the vehicle in month, would in most cases be short drives. Thereby not getting the motor up to operating temperature for long enough to get rid of the moisture in the oil. The moisture can form acids. The year then would come before 5,000 miles is traveled. If these were 30+ miles each trip. Then the 5,000 mile oil change would make sense. The time factor is relative here, to how it is driven.

All this sounds believable. However, I went to Seneca, South Carolina Jeep dealership that had over a 100 new jeeps wranglers on the lot ,they had a left over new 23 Sahara. it was sale priced at 43,5k, but when I got there, they said they could only find it for 46,5k. Then the sales manager came over and told me that it would cost me 51,5k out the door. Mind you, this Jeep was produced 12 22 and had been sitting on the lot and getting lot rot all this time. That's almost a year and a 1/2 . they could care less about selling this Jeep at a discounted price. A couple of $1000 off of a year and a 1/2 old Jeep is not a deal. funny thing, there were 2 people on this massive lot at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. My wife and myself, nobody else in sight. These dealers could care less if you buy their car or not.And the sales manager told me that that g probably would go to the auction.😮

Nothing wrong with buying a older car with low millage. There are a lot of cars with a ugly color or odd design nobody wants to drive. These are very cheap and often still in very good condition. I bought a old Toyota Corolla and invested in some maintenance to get it back on the road. The car did still run fine as I sold it, and was at that time 23 years old. I also bought a 8 year old Toyota hybrid with low millage. The car is now 15 years old and my daily driver. It runs perfect and has even the first hybrid battery.

I believe it ! most o.e.m.s contract out the electrical and tech to the very lowest bidder for mass production with very poor testing and grading procedures ,resulting in so many issues not long after buying. And are unserviceable unless you spend thousands at a dealership.

A couple months ago i went to a dealer that had a new 22 Jeep Renegade and a new 22 Fiat 500X. I thought i might get a huge discount but the dealer was still attempting to sell them for around MSRP. I test drove the Fiat and the tires had the flat spots you talked about. I was shocked at the failure to discount these old cars, especially since I was most likely the only customer interested in them. I blew the whole idea and instead bought a 24 Malibu RS that was discounted and rebated at a price well below the 22 Renegade and Fiat!

Do not buy a Fiat or Jeep product, unless you like to tinker and fix things on a fairly regular basis. Or you don't mind the vehicle being in the shop a lot.

When we bought a vehicle in the 1980s using the Consumer Reports auto buying / printed out information on the model we wanted - (basic items and such) that made a huge difference in seeing the dealer cost, mark-ups, etc., I'd do that again -- We saved a ton of money that way.

Quick question! I need a larger SUV. My favorite is a 23 Lexus GX v8 version. I know, right now, that’s not an option. What’s a great SUV to lease that’s larger that has great deals..I’m think a Stellantis vehicle..but I have a dodge and I hate it because they don’t last. My husband. Says with the interest rates so high on a used car, why not look at a new car. I don’t want an electric vehicle. What’s a good Medium to Large sized SUV I could get a great deal on? I need leather and heated seats …I live in New York State. Any recommendations?

Hi, there a a couple options that come to mind and the first is the outgoing Lexus GX460 (v8) and not the new gx550 as they have those engine issues right now. Infiniti has the large qx80 or the Nissan Armada are the same vehicle as the Infiniti. For incentives the big 3 have the best but the quality is the worst. Steam away from Yukon or Escalade due to quality issues and the Stellantis has the Dodge Durango but they are not well made. The Jeep Wagoneer is an option but a bit pricey too and quality is not as good as the Lexus. For something a slight smaller maybe have a look at the Acura MDX as it’s built better tha. Most of these other vehicles.

@@tooltime9260 Well…we are third generation showing and breeding champion/rescue PWDs. For a Tool vehicle we need the room for the 4 large dog crates and they fit perfectly in the Lexus. We drive over 100K miles drive each year. As someone with 4 destroyed and “fixed” discs in my neck, mid back and two in my lower back, the heat is the only thing that gives me comfort, and the seat comfort helps with the driving. I also have Raynouds in my hands. We have had mini vans /sprinters ,over the years, but drove my friends Lexus when I was in Arizona and knew this was the investment I wanted to make for my health and comfort from the constant pain I deal with daily. So yes, it’s a want, but now, as I have been doing this for many years, it’s a need, so I can keep this going. I don’t want to stay home, I want to keep doing this thing with our PWDs and our family. 🐾🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺🐕🦺🐾 What say you @tooltime9260

Most new cars with too much electronics are disposable unless you pay big dollars to the dealer. They are unrepairable. If a car company would offer vehicles that are simple, they would move more product. But the public is programmed to think we need all bells and whistles

Would dealers like it if all customers just ordered the vehicle, arranged financing and waited for it to arrive, take possession and off they go? That’s what I do for all of my vehicles but I suspect the public wants to buy off the lot right away and not wait so they have to maintain an inventory.

@stevereimer5254 it's because sometime you need the right allocations. If you want something special and the dealer don't have the right allocation, he won't be able to pass the order. If you want something that is more common, it's probably be on the lot our on another lot.

I did a really good deal when I bought my 2008 Tundra in 2009. With the financial crisis, cars just weren't selling. To make matters worse, the truck I was looking at was ( I think) a fleet purchase that went bad. There were 2 leftover 2008's, both in a somewhat odd an unpopular configuration. They were basically work trucks - long bed, no extra cab. With all this going on, I was able to drive a very favorable deal, as the configuration was exactly what I was after anyway - just needed a truck to haul my dirt bikes and pull a travel trailer. Of course, there will be a penalty to pay when and if I want to sell it, but then that was 16 years ago and I've still got it....

Our local Nissan dealer has many new 2023 S rouge. the one I NEED was red, original 32K, discount 4k, Sale price 28k. OTD price was 33K include extended warranty because the factory warranty has only one year left. I asked them to lower some more. The manager said he couldn't lower anymore. I told him about the Mitsubishi has the year end sale going on with 2 years free oil change, free 3 tire rotation and big discount on their 2024 models . He said the best he can do is one free oil change. I thanks him and walked out. went to Mitsubishi dealer bought the Outlander SE. At 6:30 PM owner of Nissan contacted me if he can help me with pricing.

Also agter years sitting builds up with water in the exhaust dystem. Catalytic converter starts rust blocking the flow of gases. Expensive repair.

I want a regular cab pickup truck, preferably a 4 cylinder Toyota, manual transmission, 6 foot bed. I do NOT need a 4-door truck. I have never needed a 4-door truck, never wanted an xtra-cab truck either! I just want a regular cab pickup truck, 4-cylinder Toyota, manual transmission with a 6 foot bed, only option would be air-conditioning. I don't even need an FM-radio! Build it like you used to build it TOYOTA. Don't shove the sissy-style Tacomas you are currently building! Build a real working-man's truck! I can't find a truck like this. It just won't sell. Regular cab don't sell anymore. When we order the at our dealer, they are always the ones that take most time to sell. So we keep only one in our inventory.

One of the used lots that I'm watching that sells work / commercial trucks just went out of business and started up under a different name a couple of months ago. I can remember some of my used dealer customers doing that back in the early 90's and again in the 2000's when the economy tanked in BC.

the oil doesn,t degrade, addatives may a little but if it isnt run then it will be fine, probably wouldnt wait till full 5k miles but especially newer synthetics it the addatives and filter that are limitations, not the oil. but good info and good thought!

So some of us end up paying over MSRP.....Some Rare vehicles are worth this (FEW) However, @ 5K you had better do your homework....I backed off on a LEXUS " LFA" @ 5K above MSRP....DUMB Me!...Oh well!

As a new car dealer selling new vehicles never been titled you have a lot of restrictions. You don’t have the freedom to cut the price half to get rid of it. So in order for you to go around this is to title it somehow and resell it as used now you have the freedom to sell it with price it suits you

Crazy, crazy idea.... This is gonna sound crazy... Call me crazy but imagine if you could like, place your order for something at the auto cartel's website , exactly how you want it, click add to cart, enter in a promo code so you can feel like you got a deal, and it's produced and shipped off to you, 6-8 weeks later without sitting around rotting on a dealership's lot. Totally bypassing the franchise dealerships altogether and their needs for profiteering. If it needs service you just take it to an authorized service garage.

@@markvincent5992 try that now tho. Because they all have to get approved or some proof of a failed part. I had to go to 3 different Nissan dealerships just to get a replacement starting battery because while the meter showed 1.2v not 12.0 but 1.2 the Renault computer showed it was a good battery. Finally I found a service writer that got it to fail by using a known faulty battery. And that's not exclusive to Nissan.

Its clear that dealerships are also hindering manufactures from moving inventory by keeping high markups, fees and extra charges in place. Any supposed discounts they are currently offering are still just chump change compared to the actual total sale cost. 🧐

Used to be able to buy from the manufacturer. Was much better for the consumer. What about the 2021s and 2022's that sat in fields for months because they couldn't get chips? People seem to be unloading these cars. Why? None use wear and tear?

When a new car goes to an auto graveyard, is it sent there by a dealer or the factory? If a model is not selling, why keep building them, why not shut the factory down until sales catch up?

Once it hits the dealers lot the factory is shed of it. It belongs to the dealer, who pays for it by financing it with their floorplanning bank. Every month the dealer has to pay the interest on all of those vehicles. The factory meanwhile just keeps cranking out more vehicles, because if they stop production the unions will go crazy that their workers aren't getting paid. The manufacturer will give some incentives when lots get overfilled, as they are now, but dealers are in a bind. These vehicles that have been sitting for months or even years have cost them a fortune in flooring interest, which right now is between 7% and 10%. Think about that, a $90,000 truck that costs a dealer $80,000, after sitting for 6 months has cost the dealer $4,000 in interest. If they dump it at cost they're still losing money. The dealers around me just aren't cutting deals at all, a $95,000 truck you can get $3,000 off. If you have a trade they'll offer you $15,000 (or more) under what they'll sell it for, because they're so strapped for cash for their interest payments. Plus they are selling cars here, nobody other than the Dodge dealers are not selling a lot of cars. I live in an area with a massive illegal alien population, and banks will finance an illegal even with no drivers license, verifiable income, or credit history if they have enough money down. Every one of these sales is going to be a default within the year, but the banks keep financing them. In many cases they'll never find the vehicle, which is one reason the interest rates here are as high as 20%. But the dealers are rolling cars, that's all that matters!

I cant believe why people are asking where they can buy these liquidated cars. The answer is 1. A dealer only wholesale auction 2. Wholesaled to a overseas buyer 3. To retail customers who can recognize the oldest car sitting on the lot is what they can get 25-35% off MSRP.

Early 1980 Jeep sent out a very good deal to anyone that had a licence to sell vehicles. A friend asked me to go with him and three others to Toledo Ohio to pick up five jeeps; at the factory. I couldn't get away at the time but that's how Jeep got rid of what they could not sell by usual ways.

I have a 2012 Subaru Forester with a double DIN radio deck. A two year old “new” car wouldn’t bother me one bit. Even if I had to buy a new battery and a set of tires. I’ll be in the market in 2025.
