@Wingnut353
@Wingnut353 Жыл бұрын
Its a cold engine, it the side with more oil is the exhaust side... once it warms up it will probably oil about the same on both sides as the metals on the exhaust side expand a bit. This is why you should allow your engine to warm up a bit before running it hard at all. It's not wear it's an intentional design most likely.

@@__fuhe obviously does and you dont😂 I'm an ASE certified mechanic let's settle this right here right now lol.....he's talking about the cam bearings being bad causing mass amounts of oil to come from between the bearings and the cams mounting surfaces that may be the case but without being there no one truly knows but I think there's nothing wrong here that engine is designed to not sit perfectly vertical so it's designed with an over all tilt causing the oil to pool on one side causing it to appear as if one side oils more when it really isn't the case the signs purpose is to collect the oil over a oil drain hole that goes to the crank case ...I'd say since the engine just started the oil is too cold and thick to rapidly be drained efficiently til it's hot

Should do an oil change then let it idle and see how long it takes for the oil to start hitting that glass. A lot of mechanics say you don’t need to fill the filter before mounting it but this test would prove that right or wrong.
@Wingnut353
@Wingnut353 Жыл бұрын
In an oil charge... you have residual oil in the engine anyway, so they are absolutely correct, the split second it takes to fill the oil filter is not a problem. In a NEW engine that has never ran... you should preoil the surfaces, prefill the oil filter, and turn it over without ignition untill it all gets oil then start it... because there would be no residual oil. Most likely crate engines have been test ran at the factory at least once also so are probably safe.... but a custom block etc.. would have to take those precautions.
@murphine969
@murphine969 Жыл бұрын
@@Wingnut353 a few mechanics say yes and a few say no. You’re obviously on the no side. I think if this test was done it would put that debate to rest. I understand there’s residual oil in the engine but there is a few seconds where the air in the empty filter would need to get pushed through so the engine would go without oil for a few seconds…which may not hurt it but considering filling the filter is only mildly annoying, I’d say fill the filter to be safe.
@gamechip06
@gamechip06 Жыл бұрын
You don't normally need to unless there's a turbo, turbos, if left without oil, even for a split second, will spin so fast that it blows itself up. In that case you should fill the filter first.

I use synthetic oil because i can picture some unfortunate bearing only getting a little oil for some reason. Regular oil would be quicker to harden and quit flowing. Not good, that would make a not good situation really bad.

This shows a very interesting dilemma - One cam is favored in terms of lubrication, typically the exhaust I believe. This is because that side requires more cooling.

@@ericwieboldt7042 and what is the issue you're referring to? You keep repeating "oiling problem" like it actually means something without explaining. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just trying to understand the point of why you're even posting any replies of you won't bother explaining your original comment? Is it simply to insult people who may not have seen something you have? Or to be rude to someone who might not know cars but is hoping to learn? Or do you just thrive on being a dick? I'm genuinely trying to take you seriously but you're making it very hard. Rewatching the video, the lobes on the rear cam are all getting approximately the same amount of lubrication, and they're all getting enough oil on them, so what exactly is the issue with the rear cam?
