Honestly I could tell you everything you need to know. I have been there and I’m surprised I fully recovered from the addiction. By the end of it I was so underweight and seeing things that weren’t there. 2 years later I’m recovered, physically, mentally and feel like a kid again. I’m happy I didn’t lose any teeth or my life!

The way I always describe it is that it takes all the happiness you'd of felt over the next three days and you feel it all at once. But that leaves you void of happiness for those next three days. So you take more and borrow more happiness. Kinda like a credit card. You'll end up in debt

The worst part is if you finally get sober it can take up to 18 months for your dopamine to level out. The beginning of sobriety is tuff!

That's true, for my first 2 years I white knuckled the depression and the anxiety and I don't know how I made it. It did start to level out at about 20-24 months. The thing is even if you have no desire for it at all you will always think about it and what it felt like in the back of your mind. Rebuilding that natural dopamine is absolutely miserable when nothing in life is satisfying and you doubt If You will ever feel normal about life again. Just a lack of dopamine in general makes you feel like an addict Even if you easily stopped.

I relapsed last night. Reached out to my closest friends right away because the guilt was too much. Flushed 4 years of sobriety down the drain for 1 fun night. Once the guilt set in after it really realized what I just did, I got rid of all of it. All of my friends gave me the support and reassurance I needed to hear, having a solid support system is a huge key in getting clean again. Many of them were just glad I came clean right away and admitted my faults when I easily could've kept it a secret. Old me wouldn't think twice about lying about it so I've definitely made improvements. My heart goes out to you and your late father, it's such a scary path to go down and it's very difficult to find your way back, including those who care for the person using. ❤

Stay far away from this drug. For the past couple of years I’ve had to watch my childhood best friend I’ve known for 30 years completely lose herself to it. The saddest thing of all is the irreparable damage it’s done. She’s had stretches of sobriety but even then she’s not all there to the point where I feel she needs a guardian to oversee her life. She’s so out of touch with reality. I’ve had to accept she’ll never be the same & I’ll never get the person she once was back & it’s hard mourning the loss of someone who’s still living. As an addict in recovery I cannot have her in my life if she’s actively using so I’ve had to cut her off but I will always love her & be there for her if she ever decides to really get sober. So, once again STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS DRUG.

@@The_real_onefs Sadly, you just have to cut them off, set boundaries & it make it clear that going forward you’ll only answer if it’s to help them get help. Anything beyond is enabling & helping them stay sick. Recovery is only works if the addict wants it so there’s literally nothing anyone can do if they don’t. I know it’s easier said than done but anytime you feel like giving in remember that. It took me a few tries with my friend as we used to use together. So, when I got better I felt guilty like I abandoned her because she didn’t & owed her my loyalty regardless. I finally had to realize & accept I was doing more harm than good. I still love her endlessly & keep hope alive she’ll come back one day.

So basically take it at the beginning of a vacation?
@mikelprescott628
@mikelprescott628 4 ай бұрын
Not to mention the fact that users will sometimes take downers in order to sleep (aka "speedballing"), a very dangerous mixture that can cause sudden death. The heart is trying to speed up and slow down at the same time, has taken many a good person. And a few great comedian's as well, like Jim Belushi and Chris Farley. I don't understand how people can slip into addiction so easily, i think a lot of times there are other underlying conditions that addicts turn to drugs, using substances as an emotional crutch as an escape from facing the reality of their problems they have a hard time facing and dealing with. Eventually this avoidance stops temporarily killing the pain they have and instead, only inevitably amplify their problems. It's hard for me to understand why some people can't just stop or not use something they know is causing damage to their mental and physical health. The only way i can explain it, is that in many cases, there must be some deep underlying psychological things that they need to acknowledge, understand and work through with the right therapist. When i ask addicts that I've met, they usually say they experienced some severe trauma at a young age and were raised in some sort of abusive/neglectful environment. It seems that they learned a reward system that rewarded negative behavior and ignored or punished positive behavior in some cases. I'm intrigued to know if any qualified psychologists could explain if/how this experience in youth might lead to addiction later in life.
@mikelprescott628
@mikelprescott628 4 ай бұрын
@@tribequest9 So you won't remember most of the beginning of the vacation, as it all happened so fast, it's a blur.. and then the second half of the trip, you'll just be exhausted and frazzled as all get out. Also, it could cause you to behave in uncontrollable ways, which could end up getting you incarcerated, meaning, your vacation may end up being longer and more expensive than you bargained for.

I worry about making the association. Especially in light of the pandemic. There’s been an increasing number of patients displaying symptoms of anomia and aphasia following covid infections with dextroamphetamine being one of the few methods shown to subside it. Presenting verbal fluency as a sign of psychological addiction may make those suffering those conditions less likely to seek or accept treatment. I obviously don’t think that’s the intention, but it’s worth mentioning with this being observed in an increasing number of people and literature still being sparse on the subject

I knew he was bad for me and distanced myself, but I ran into him one day. He asked me if I could help him move out because he was going to rehab. Since he was working on improving his life, I agreed. To repay me he took me out to dinner, it was like old times! Then he left for rehab and I never heard from him again. That was a year ago. He's never had social media and all emails to him bounce back as undeliverable. I don't know his friends or family's contact info, as we met at work. He moved his belongings to his parents' somewhere in NYC. I hope he's okay. Maybe one day he'll show up at my door. 😢

The fact alone that you acknowledge the way you feel shows that you haven't given-up completely and that you don't like feeling that way. That means you still have a heart and still have hope. If not, you wouldn't regret having such feelings of despair, you would just accept them and not even question such things. It shows that you do still care for others and don't like feeling so selfish, that you must regret being selfish and you aren't blaming your addiction as a scape goat to excuse negative behavior towards others. That's the part of you that is still okay and needs healing. It's brave of you to admit and i really hope you can use that part of you that hurts and feels weak as a source of strength and encouragement to get back to the you who you were before you were using. That's the you who you still are, it's the chemicals altering your perception of reality that are telling you otherwise. When you get clean and piece it all back together, you'll be surprised and amazed just how fast you can have your happiness back. Once people finally stop making excuses and just quit what they're doing that isn't benefiting them, they realize it was just a matter of getting out from under that monkey on their back. Getting sober, one day at a time and seeing the world the way it always was to them when they aren't under the influence. It's like waking up from a bad dream, it goes away and you return back to normal. It just takes one good decision to counter-act the results of a bad decision. I don't just believe that to be true, i know it for a fact. Getting clean happens faster than you think, once you get past the hard part of just doing it, feeling bad for a short period so that you feel better after that instead of co tinuing to do what is making you feel so sick, just to feel a little better for a short while, until it wears off and you feel even worse. I've seen people slip into addiction a lot slower than they came out of it, when they took the right steps to stay away from what was keeping them in that negative cycle. I know i don't know you, but i know you can do it because i know close friends who did, even after i stopped believing in them. It was easy for me to see them struggle and think that my struggle was somehow harder and it was easier for me, so it must be some fault of theirs, this was selfish and thoughless of me. Uet, through all their adversity and against others negative judgement, It's them who decided to never stop believing in themselves and who didn't give-up and it's them who have happy live's that they've dedicated to helping others stay clean. Some of the others who they've helped ened-up being the same who scoffed at them as junkies etc.. and then later became addicts themselves and found out the reality, first-hand, that drug-addicticion affects everyone in our culture in some way or another and can happen to anyone. The rcovering addicts in my life have been some of the most positive infuences I've known and are among the strongest, most disciplined and accomplished individual's I've ever met. They've insipred me to take the initiative to make an effort to work harder, take personal inventory and better myself in any way i can, every day because, if they can, then i have no excuse Sometimes the one's society labels as the worst actually end-up achieving what some say is unattainable and beating their chemical dependencies once-and-for-all. And In doing so, they've affected the most positive change in others, than anyone else in their lives. It's their experiences that i commend and it's them, who in some, however paradoxical way, look-up to and aspire to be more like. So here's to the people like you, the one's who's stories we could all stand to benefit from a little more. I, for one, can truly say that after seeing people who were so far down the rabbit-hole of depression and drug-dependancy come out the other side in one piece and then, go on to do more with their live's than even their naysayers, who never knew the pain of struggling with addiction, did. So athough we don't know each other, i can honestly tell you that i believe in you, even if you feel like you don't or that others may have given up. I've seen those who i mever thought would amount to much, lose it all, yet still never give-up & come back better and stronger from the experience. I've also seen the one's who seemed like they had it all, fall even harder than those who they looked-down upon.. So i decided to try not to cast judgement upon others in difficult cicumstances and to never count anyone out! Sorry if i got on my soapbox.. not trying to proselytize to anyone here.. I've just been in a place in my past, in which i could relate to your sentiments and I'm glad to say that i didn't lose hope and I'm glad I'm still here today to say that I'm happier and my old problems that seemed so pressing and final, seem trivial in retrospect. So when i feel that the future is daunting now, i try to keep that in mind and tell myself, that hopefully, in good time, today's problems, will be tomorrows distant memories, as well. I sincerely hope that, you too, are able to look back at your comment one day and be glad that you no longer feel that way. May you surround yourself with a positive circle of influence and triumph in avoiding the negative. From my experience the negative infuences will always be there, it's avoiding them that becomes a daily practice, and ultimately, something to relfect on at the end of each day as another triumph, little victories on your path to better things. If you have to be like a frog, leaping from one lilypad to another, then keep moving, away from the bad juju! They say, you can't run from your problems but if you recognize a problem and avoid it, then it's as good of a way to deal with it as any other. So if you have to change your surroundings completely, in order to get a fresh perspective, then maybe it's worth a venture.. You already know which elements to avoid, should they present themselves elsewhere. Solitude isn't so bad, in a world gone mad my friend... I wish you all the best and hope your poison runs-it's-course sooner than later! I think, once it does, things will start to get better almost immediately, mark my word..

I agree it’s hard to stop using. Your mind and body is stronger than you think. Detox your body first to clear out the drug still lingering in your body. Second your mind tries to convince you need the drug. No you don’t need the drug. Seek therapy figure out why you used in the first place. Stop hanging out with users and stop cruising the internet. The side effects left my body in stages two weeks, 3 months, 6 months after 1 year you are free like a bird.

The calm down is the worst feeling that’s the part of the high that I dreaded but the addiction always kept me coming back, long story short the addiction lasted 5 straight years, luckily I was able to walk away from this addiction over 15 years ago and never touched it since, strangely enough I still have dreams about it and remembering the highs occasionally has tempted me to go back but thank God I haven’t relapsed.

You can say the same thing about caffeine, nicotine, work, power, hunting, etc. Anything a person takes to the extreme. My aunt is one of the single most wealthy women in the state that she lives in and she works everyday. She never sleeps she never eats she hasn't weighed over a hundred pounds in many years. Of course she has the money to pay for or buy anything but on the other hand she doesn't clean her house she doesn't wash her clothes but because she pays taxes and working isn't illegal no one ever says she has an addiction.
