Sheeeeesh...I realized that my body was tense watching this, LOL! I had to take a deep breath and I'm just sitting here in my living room watching. I can't imagine how you must've felt. But, damn, you handled it well! Kinda makes me upset when you, as a truck driver, get angry faces/gestures from folks in their cars. Do they not realize that they would not be able to get ANYTHING from stores without you all bringing it to us!! UGH! Thank you Dave and all the drivers out there!!!

good luck . 3 Pieces of advice. #1- Breathe. If you feel like you're getting in a situation. Stop and breathe. Everyone can either go around or wait. Otherwise you're likely to stack mistakes on top of mistakes and have a bad go of it. #2- Backing- If you want the rear of the trailer to go left, grab the bottom of the steering wheel and turn it left. Want it to go right. Turn the bottom of the wheel right. For some reason courses want you to do this mental gymnastics of where should the hood be pointing, or which way to turn the steering wheel ( normal grip), just remember grab the bottom and turn which way you need the back of the trailer to go. #3- Everyone from day one to year 40 has days where they can't back for crap. It's not a race, nor is every back the same. Pull ups are your friend and USE them.

Hey Dave, we all get these kinds of drops and pickups!! I've been twice to a drop at John Cole Spas, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, it's on Wilks and it is a narrow dirt driveway with no place to turn around! The business is a home type operation with a secured gate and almost no room for a 5 ton box to get in and get out. I've done it twice and it is a tactical game to line up with the drop box in the yard. Secretly, I love the challenge, but I hate the risks involved...so far, 2-0 for me!!! Life is simpler if we get to one of these situations and the dispatch is not constantly hammering our devices!!!! I almost want to chime back at them, "FUCK OFF!! Do you not see where you put me?"... Thank GOD for Timmies and a hot bevvy! Keep a cool head and think about what you need to do before you actually move the truck.

Yeah, you've gotta be careful with that. Google Maps isn't always on par for updating it's map information when a railroad decides to close a grade crossing. Satellite view may show the road as still being open, but once you pop open street view at that intersection, you'll see that it's closed. Makes it an absolute pain in the ass.
