In what rule book does it say that the man is supposed to be the breadwinner? So because im the man, that means im supposed to pay for all or most of the household stuff while the woman can do whatever she wants with her money? That doesnt seem fair at all and actually sounds kinda selfish in my opinion. One last question, God forbid something happens to your husband to where hes unable to work for an extended period of time. @?? Name one community where women rung the whole show. When I was in college I remember learning in Anthropology class how even societies where women held all the decision making power they still elected males to be in charge, although they would only elect the most competent ones who could get things done. As my anthropology professor stated, the female of our species prefers to rule by proxy, or in other words, she prefers it when the man is in charge but only if he rules with her best interests in mind. Which actually makes sense from an evolutionary point of view. Women are attracted to men whom they can trust with their life, sometimes literally, so that they may be vulnerable bearing children and depend almost entirely on the man to provide and protect her AND the kids. It used to be a win win. Men got to pass on their genes AND literally protect their own offspring by being an influence in their lives and the women got all the benefits of the protection from the man and his resources as well as passing on her own genes with a strong male thus passing on his strong qualities to her own offspring.

There have been MULTIPLE studies done on how out earning your man is very detrimental. Many men THINK they like equality because they don't want the FULL pressure of supporting the family, but there is an expectation of the one who earns less takes on more domestic duties and most men find that EMASCULATING. Men and women draw pleasure out of different things in life. Being a bread winner for a man allows us to provide and care for those we love most. A woman being a breadwinner brings her depression. You cannot make this up….
@Cherryblossoms1103 жыл бұрын
Isn't that the fault of society as a whole for putting these expectations on men, then? The only reason why they would feel emasculating is because they have become insecure about their masculinity. Even now, society is unfair to men-see, we tend to MOCK men for feeling insecure about their masculinity, because we still have these unfair beliefs of 'masculinity'-society dictates that they are not allowed to express any emotion other than anger... so of course, inevitably, we end up with some (not all) women who mock men for feeling insecure, which causes some (not all) men to express their emotions in the only way they were traditionally taught how-anger-at women. The only solution here is to acknowledge that men are also humans and to help them get through their insecurities and understand that making a lower salary doesn't make them any less of a man. The same is true for women-just because they make more than their man does not make them any less feminine.
@legendarylunatic47383 жыл бұрын
@@Cherryblossoms110 I don't think society has ever dictated that men aren't allowed to express any emotions other than anger. I'm curious as to what you've experienced in life where you think anyone has taught anyone else that a man can only express anger. I think it has less to do with masculinity/femininity though. The issue is that if you took out paid maternity leaves, that families would have no means to provide for their kids. More importantly, maternity leaves are costly to companies. They have to pay you for having a child while paying another worker to replace you for several weeks. And if most people decide not to have children, then the society will gradually depopulate. It's the modern analogue to why most species are patriarchal and why men generally make better breadwinners. It's a combination of factors pertaining to why a society survives, and how it tries to balance survival with economic growth.

Men don’t really care, but women hate it. Men pick up on women’s vibes that they don’t even realize they display. Even when men take on the household duties and other things, women still want the many to provide tangible (money) to them. It’s kinda sad because in some cases women are better equipped to be the providers and men should be the supporters, but human nature is deterministic eventually the imbalance leads to discontent. Ultimately, this means that many women will remain perpetually single, engage in multiple relationships, or simply give up on love entirely. Sadly, women have a paradox of choice--agency (independence) and security (dependence).

I think you're partly right. We know with certainty that the best way to lower birth rates is to educate girls. It works in developing countries as well in developed countries. On the other hand, a functioning society demands a lot of behaviors that arguably are against our nature as mammals. Monogamy, for instance, or working 9 to 5. This phenomenon with female breadwinners is just another situation where we are going to have to suck it up or disappear. It will evidently become more common as women get considerably more college degree rates than men. At least until our debt-ridden societies run out of money. I also don't believe that there was any more harmony in the 1950s housewife family model. The wives probably resented their husbands back then as well. Life, including male-female relationships, have always been a power struggle.

I don’t have an issue, fully supported and encouraged my wife through her degree and career progression. My career stalled, burnout lead to a mental health breakdown and now my wife earns a good deal more than I do. The problem arose when she started to see me as not trying anymore, not being ambitious. I earn just under the national average. Then the slow decline in sex as she no longer saw me as the provider, this became the slow death of our relationship. When she became the bread winner she also started to take charge in the relationship, becoming hyper masculine and the emasculation continued. Over time this has just about killed the relationship. So being supportive and encouraging your wife can still lead to the demise of the relationship. Women struggle to be the main breadwinner and retain the same respect for their husbands that they had before that was the case.
