I have Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Wet AMD) and I get one injection in my right eye every two months. I am always nervous before my appointment, but I’d get through it with ease without a problem. I used to have a wonderful ophthalmologist, but then DEI changed things. My seasoned highly qualified ophthalmologist was suddenly retired, in order to replace him with a younger “approved DEI” person. When my next appointment was due, I was meeting my new DEI doc, & I was very nervous. His method was totally different compared to my original ophthalmologist. This new Doc was rough, didn’t speak much, and used a speculum that left my eye sore for days. I experienced pain, discomfort, & irritation, for the rest of the day and after two weeks, my eyeballs were still red. Even if I got one injection in my right eye, both my eyeballs were red. I find that every doctor has his own way of doing things, therefore, may use different methods, and believe in what’s best for their patients. How I wish I could get my first doctor back!

I have heard that the procedure is not pleasant, especially after the fact. Burning sensation from the antiseptic used to clear the area, after the anesthesia wears off. The feeling of having something gritty like sand in the eye itself. Bloody-looking eye and some short-term peripheral vision loss. General pain in the area from 24 to 48 hours.

No it's not. Though it's very very rare. But you can still talk to your doctor about it.. I've experienced one injection at the age of 33, and I'm telling you that it's SAFE!

I feel you!! I’ve been having to get injections every few months due to blood floaters from vomiting from pregnancy taking a toll on my retina. I have been terrified each time and used to have to take an anti anxiety drug before the appointment. I got a new doctor and saw her today she knew I wasn’t up for the injection but we did it. She numbed me with drops then 15 mins later tested with a q tip with lidocaine on it I felt a little pressure she used a few more drops and then tested ten minutes later and then used the damn eyelid spreader which hers was not the big chunky metal digger! Her tech used something called a beauty bar that vibrates on my other eye brow to distract from the actual injection. Right before she did the injection she also put extra lidocaine on my eye for after pain relief

Heard these help minimally and sometimes more harm than good. But the drs and drug companies don’t mind scamming you.

I wish I really knew more about this to see if you’re right. As I made a comment earlier here, after my injections, my vision is much better and I wish there was another way, but for now, I’m happy with the results. If you have further evidence, I would seriously like to know. Thanks for your comment, I hope that in the future there is something better for everyone I’m 70 years old, and for now, I’m happy that they have these injections or I would be blind.
