Since you asked, I've actually been playing Hearts of Iron for my whole life. My dad had Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday expansion, and he taught it to me and my younger brother when we were growing up. It was one of my formative gaming experiences. We would gather around in LAN parties playing together when my dad got days off or was at Liberty from deployment. We got Hearts of Iron 3 when it came out, but it was very different and complex (not to mention the map made your eyes bleed). My Dad was too busy to sit down and tank the learning curve and so couldn't teach us. And neither my brother nor my 11-year old self at the time was going to do it, so we lost interest. We'd occasionally boot up HoI2 every once and a while. I caught wind of HoI4 around when it came out while surfing KZbin years later and started following its presence on the platform. I bought the game early, though honestly I was more enamored with the content creators than the game itself. Watching you and the other creators was so fun, I got to learn more about the game and find out about all the cool mods that I find more fun playing than the base game (Equestria at War best mod, fight me). My brother and I eventually got my Dad a copy of the game so we can play together like the old days, but unfortunally the game is so resource intensive that we can't really play far without it slowing down to an unplayable crawl. So until we can replace all the family potatoes, watching you guys keeps my interest alive!

I bought HOI4, wasnt good at it, my main reason was the AI only Drew Durnil videos. Then I discovered EU4 through the paradox community, bought it and loved it. The recent paradox sale pushed me to make a big move and spend all my money and buy the DLC... I love it... Admittedly, you're also one of the main reasons I got into paradox games in general, I just have to thank you for being so entertaining and giving me interest in these games and history in general. I found HOI4 through a combination of my brother and friend who both suggested the game to me. (I did little research before buying it) but I bought it with zero thought in late 2017. I bought it because it was the exact type of game I’ve always wanted to play. Ever since I was in my early teen years I’ve been interested in the military but the more army movements and HOI4 fit the requirements. Every since then 2017 have played HOI4 relatively consistently and recently passed 3,000 hours.

I was playing HoI II and III (I really don't remember, how I found these games). Then I spent lot of time on EU IV. After HoI IV was released (I did not get in to the beta, I was watching the development from the start ..), I downloaded cracked version, played it hundreds of hours (on really bad PC, so usually my campaing was done in 1943 ...). Then after like one year I finally bough it on steam (on new PC). Sadly, I had not played much since then, just few times. I tried MP just for like 5 times at the beginning of the MP era, but I was later focused on other games.

Bought the game, my friend had it and I really liked the idea of invading countries strategically. I was also watching HOI 4 content right after my friend screenshared the game, he said 'the game is a bit complicated'.
