My Grandpa Died in 2000 and on the way to the Cemetery it started storming and when we got there the tent blew over, so we sit there for a few until the rain eased off and I had to get down in the vault and scoop water out and than we proceeded with the interment!

If movies are any indication, it's almost always raining during a funeral, or at least during the graveside ceremony.☔☔😊

Our local Funeral Homes usually go ahead and hold the service during the winter with deep snows and then when the snow clears out they do the burials a few days or a week or so after

Family members have traveled hundreds or thousands of miles to attend funerals & need to get back to their busy lives. The only reason a funeral is postponed is due to unforeseen disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, or flooding) all deemed to be unsafe for everyone to attend. During snowstorms, funeral services are possible although interments may be delayed. In some cases, committals are made at the place of a service with deliveries at a later date.

Like so many other situations in life, you just have to be prepared to dance and adapt. I once had a graveside where we did the service a few graves over from the actual space because the grave needed to be pumped out and redug. ( the sides had collapsed). The family was ok with that and just left one person behind to make sure the burial actually took place.

I liked this one. I often wonder how a funeral would go on in bad weather. Being in Cincinnati we get crazy weather here what about the cold. What do you do if the ground is frozen how do you deal with that

I remember an uncle of mine passing and the day before the funeral was that 22" snowfall. It wasn't an issue about the funeral home being able to provide the service, the question was how accessible the grave would be at the cemetery. As luck would have it all the snow removal equipment was kept at the rear (south end) of the property and they could not assure access to the chapel let alone the road to the section he was to be buried in. Using employees personal equipment cleared access to the chapel but we were told on arrival at the funeral home they might have to store his casket in a side hall of the chapel (conveniently also the main mausoleum) until the grave could be accessed. So the service was held at the funeral home and committal in the chapel of the cemetery. By the time the committal was over we were able to take arrangements of flowers to my mother's grave which was in the same section but opposite end hers west his east. I was laying two tracks over still dense but plowed snow on that side and probably shouldn't have risked it. Traipsing into the section was a greater challenge and the best I could do was approximate where mom's grave was and drop the arrangements right there. it was apparent nothing had even begun to be cleared on the east end. Uncle Earl did spend one night in the mausoleum chapel and was buried the following day.
