That unwritten rule in skating is craaaazy to me! It seems so limiting and silly. I loved when max barker did the imax kp and went in to the phone booth to like call out kie. That was such a great moment in resurgence.

I think rock climbing is an interesting part of this discussion. Repeats of hard routes are sometimes more exciting than the first ascent because they have the potential to validate or dispute the grade suggested by the person who established the line. I'm thinking of Will Bosi's second ascent of Burden of Dreams and the continued pilgrimage of high level climbers going to Finland to try it

Our Comp War of the Walls attempted 2 & 3 round battles. Got some decent success, but the sport will definitely have to adjust to take full advantage of the "battle culture" (responding, mocking, callouts etc.) Not many practicioners do tricking battles or breaking, let alone understand those concepts. Couldnt agree with Renee more with the near miss opportunities to really get the most out of battle style comps. Ultimately it comes down to the competitors. Would love to battle Jason Paul

regarding ed and calen, i had a similar thing happen at NAPC style quals in colorado. we were talking you guys through our lines before competing and another athlete added my end trick to his line despite never practicing the move. it’s tough to train and compete in style because it is always collaborative (sometimes indirectly). we borrow from each other and from other sports all the time. finding a way to navigate this in a competitive environment would be a huge step for the sport. battling is one approach, but I feel like the beans deserve more credit for almost single handedly adapting moves from a snow sport to parkour. how do we recognise collaboration and innovation (e.g., doing a combo with better connections re. calen & ed) in comps?

Tough to do without private practice for each competitor. SPL judging criteria is Difficulty, Progression (innovation and rare tricks), Execution, and Composition. So with "progression" the aim is to reward that innovation more.
