I'm not going to act like I've done some hard time because I've only have done 2 months in jail when I was 20 but to be honest those 2 months I have never been so productive in my life I learned so much about myself and I started to take my life more seriously probably because I was sober. Tbh I kind of wish I was back strangely enough. Ik I just need to make a change in my life but it's something about it really made me want to better myself and I did. I was working out everyday, reading, and crafting my skills as an artist and a strength builder and just becoming more self aware of how my actions no matter how small affect the people around u. And I think that why people don't stay sober for long once they get out even if they want to all that weight on your shoulders has built up and don't start falling it until ur sober. I was depressed the first month I was in there but just before I left it seemed like I started to see some light. However, even with how much I told myself I would turn things around once I got out it took only a year of sobriety and depression to be pretty much back where I was before I went In of course I stayed pretty much clear of what got me in there which was alcohol but picked up other habits instead. I'm 24 now and hope I can fight these demons once more if not for myself but for my family. Mental health is a serious problem and I think we all should start taking it more serious I'm a sting believer that the world's drug epidemic is mainly due to self medication and we all should take a step back and try to do something about it that's actually going to be benificial before it's honestly to late. People don't want to be dependant on a substance no matter what they say it's just how people deal with the fucked up world.

My friend went thru that crap. They told him to name folks or he was going awy for 20+ for what he had hidden. Someone had told the cops where he had the stash. ( a snitch). Then they talked him into wearing a wire and ride around with them for a day ,showing locations of dealers. The boy had to move and go hide out for a yr. Folks were beating on his door all night threatening to kill him for cooperating. He went into hiding. The bad part is the day after he rode around with them they came back and arrested him again. I feel what you're saying Joe. I've never been locked up, I spent my time in the military so...but we get a lot of something similar. Everybody and their mother always talking about how hard they are or what they'd do if someone actually shot at them. Not a drive by, I'm talking about war, like heavy machine gun, will saw you in half, blew your feet through your face, will straight up cut your head off if you lose war. People are real quick to make themselves seem tough, but the truth always comes out when the shit really hits the fan. Whether that's for jail time, fighting or war, or anything else that requires a person be tough, smart, or loyal.
