I usually only pay attention to tech and business news. Regular news is really psychologically damaging since they tend to go with negative topics that get the clicks. Plus it's just kind of weird when you see the clips that show all the broadcasts saying the exact same thing verbatim sometimes.

The news and social media has actually saved lives through breaking coverage. Obviously not everyone is in these situations, but when you're in Florida and a hurricane is coming, it's good to know as fast as possible. You should strive to be more informed about the clips you're commenting on. The full interview is on how the guest manages EA's for delegation. Your comment is a great example of a person who sees headlines and little news snips to form an entire opinion on a subject without digging any deeper. Your opinion isn't just wrong it's completely divorced from the point of the interview. That's the big difference between reading books and watching news.

Watching 'the news' isn't 'participating in politics' in 2024 - it's just opening wide and receiving whatever muck makes the media oligarchs the most money and sews the most division. You can be well informed without a network - I'd argue infinitely so. We participate in politics with our hands, our feet, our hearts and our wallet - network television has little integrity left to offer anyone anything.

They don't really have to worry about potential political changes to their rights, or worry that someone in the community is targeting them, and if they'd like to they can "unsubscribe" to the world as it is and would still feel pretty well represented. Why isolate oneself even further from what people are expressing in real time? This feels like a huge risk factor for living in a different type of echo chamber. 💔 Do it for a season? Sure.
