The updates are great, now let’s hope Spielberg lives a long life so ET can stay!

I love how you shine a light on a topic like this for a ride that will forever have a special place in my heart. Since the early 2000s when I was just tall enough to go on I’ve made sure to make a strong attempt to ride this ride every time I’m at studios in Orlando. Whether it be with my family who visited central Florida to even myself a couple of weeks ago (now 24) riding it by myself. Please Universal never get rid of this nostalgic and classic ride.

Funny how you mentioned the guy was holding a walky talky because when they rereleased this movie for the 20th anniversary they made some changes and one of them was to the government agents holding walky talkys instead of guns. Thankfully Spielberg did demand both the altered and unaltered original versions of the movie to be on the dvd when it released.

Dude I never noticed the guns as a kid but I rewatched my first edition VHS copy a few years ago. I was shocked that the officers were legit about to shoot the kids in order to recover and contain ET. I kind of like that fact though because it still has that childlike wonder but with a bit of realism added the movie can age with you since you start to see past the rainbows and sunshine.

Imo it’s one of the best attractions at Universal because it’s real, it’s an actual ride. Most of the stuff in the parks now are simulations sadly.

I definitely feel the same way, but I think Universal is headed in a more practical direction after the reception of Fallon and Fast & Furious

I thought that I heard somewhere that the E.T. Adventure is still open for one reason, but I can't find it anywhere so take it with a grain of salt. Universal had opened 3 rides that were based on Spielberg movies. These rides being Jaws the Ride, Back to the Future the Ride, and the E.T. Adventure. When they closed the first 2 and threatened to close E.T. in Florida after closing it in Hollywood and Tokyo, Spielberg had stated that he would not work with Universal anymore if they closed the ride forever. Thus, Universal Studios Florida's E.T. Adventure is the final thread that's holding Spielberg and Universal's relationship together.
@StorybookAmusement2 жыл бұрын
That's the way I've heard it! Rumor has it that he checks up on the ride on occasion too, which is one reason why the pre-show and passports returned recently.

Why do these theme parks close the best rides that everyone can enjoy? These simulated rides is what makes universal theme park
@CaptainEO3 жыл бұрын
Universal Hollywood should consider bringing it back when Steven passes away. Not only did he want the ride forever around, but they owe it to him! E.T. became the #1 box office film of all time back in the 1980s, and with the crave for nostalgia in today’s generation (thanks to Stranger Things and such) the park would definitely benefit from it. Sure it might cost a lot to bring such ride back but the Mummy movies are forgettable and aren’t relevant anymore. They even went ahead to reboot the franchise and no one nearly remembers anything about the mummy, whereas E.T. is a staple of their brand. Not only does the park NEED MORE rides, but they need to get rid of some of these simulation rides.
@StorybookAmusement3 жыл бұрын
That would be amazing. I think Universal could do a really cool dark ride combining its classic franchises, kind of in the style of Great Movie Ride. Think E.T., Jaws, Classic Monsters. I’d love it!

I have to fess up, I was one of those people who made that claim before an E.T. TM corrected me! A TM at Mummy a few years back told me it was Harry Potter, and I rolled with that. I'd love to see that video if you still have it!

When I went on the ride in the 90s I distinctly remember movable bike pedals you could push do the ride vehicles still have movable pedals?
@StorybookAmusement Жыл бұрын
Hmm, I'm not sure that was the case. The bikes today have little bars for your feet under the handlebars. In older footage, it looks like they always had these same bars. The pedals are not something I personally remember from back in the day. But I'm willing to be wrong! That sounds like a great feature.

Do you know what year the music changed at the end?
@StorybookAmusement3 жыл бұрын
Some time in the early ‘90s. It might be safe to assume it happened when they updated the preshow. The composer also wrote the music for the 1993 Jaws update, so perhaps he was contracted out for both gigs at the same time. Not positive though.

@@StorybookAmusement There is also another music cue that was changed in the first years. In older POVs when your ride vehicle climbs up the hill before soaring over the city you can hear an original part of John William´s flying theme, the phrase that builds up tension before the main melody repeats.... Nowadays in this part of the ride you can hear a music cue with a very general sounding crescending string motive. You can clearly spot the differences since this music sounds like being performed with with early synths while the music in the scenes before and after was done with a real orchestra. Not sure why it was changed but if you listend to the old versions the idea apparently was that the original "uphill" music cue builds tension and ends with a cymbal crash - flawlessly transitioning in the main "flying theme" that starts with a cymbal crash. I guess this was triggered by the ride vehicles. In more than one old POV video you can hear the timing wasn´t perfect, resulting in the two cymbal crashes being half a second apart (sounding like the orchestra got out of rhythm). My educated guess would be: The changed it to the new version which musically better hides timing issues....
