I had the same car and model for about 5 years. the car was 6 years old when I bought it. the engine was shaking slightly at idle since the day I got it but it was fine according to the official dealer. the noise of the bushings in the back disappeared by itself after driving a lot. same with difficult starting. this car isn't made to stand still. the more you drive it the less problems you'll have. funny isn't it. I did have to replace a muffler because of a rattle. I also had the coolant leak behind the engine. Never open the coolant reservoir when the engine is hot. my airco compressor was slipping on the belt as well so I had to replace that too. I maybe spent about 6000 on repairs in total. and almost every year I had to replace the rear tyres. It was totally worth it.

We have a Granturismo... a great car, but does come with a level of cost which one has to be accustomed to spending. Had to have a new battery, front parking sensor (including painting), and front set of brake pads, all fitted was just under £2k.
@SailingSVPipedream Жыл бұрын
Yes, I just did the battery, got a Bosch S5 with 5 year warranty. I am doing everything myself which cuts out a lot of cost. For example the battery was £130 because I could go to Carparts4less - some specialists go to their main supplier and pay more for parts trade than what you can buy stuff for as just a person popping into the normal parts places. Of course not everyone is comfortable with doing these things and I have to say that there are times when I am cold wet and miserable under the car… Those are the times when I wished I had studied more at school…

Make sure when you are working on the battery( must be 12v+) that the positive connections are all bolted down, as on my QP a + 12v terminal plate connection wasn't tight and caused the xmas tree display on the dash ABS every other lights as well that you indicated you are getting.

Yes, mine were good, but the battery was weak. I also learnt that during the battery reset, the trunk must be closed. At first, after reconnecting the battery, the drivers door was dead which meant no locking, windows, mirrors etc. I then shut the trunk before doing the procedure and it all worked again, that was a massive relief!

Thanks very much, I plan to set up some eBay notifications for key parts I may need and then just grab them when I see them cheap. Occasionally new tyres come up very cheap. Guy on KZbin with a quatroporte just put little one way ball valves on his front cam caps oil drain holes n problem solved, He sent them off to be done by a guy in california but im sure there are guys in the UK Long as you don't see scoring inside the caps you should be good, Heard that rattle only one time in my Nissan VQ engine when I ran too long over my oil change Never heard it since, been two years now...I didn't even have to look into it just changed the oil Same deal, variators on the intake cams
@SailingSVPipedream8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, the previous owner had the caps machined. He sent them to the US for that! My guess is that the variators were already worn though. They do have solenoids too that may be playing up. However to get round it for now, I have fitted a pre oil accumulator. That has stopped the noise and ensures the engine has oil pressure before I start her up. I will do the variators eventually and change timing chains etc. but at least i can enjoy the car for a while first!

@SailingSVPipedream Жыл бұрын
I did get a bit worried at first, but these have separate rear sub frames and from what I have seen, it’s all in good shape. Apparently the standard factory tracking settings on these are too harsh on tyres and people have developed a slightly different set up that works much better. I will need to try it when I get the tracking done.

@SailingSVPipedream28 күн бұрын
Yes, mine was very cheap thanks to our insurance companies being lazy! However prices here are a lot cheaper mostly thanks to people believing the stories about Maseratis being unreliable. It’s a bit like searching for a solution to a car problem on the internet, all you see is other people looking for similar solutions, so it feels like that type of car is really bad and unreliable. People in the UK can be a bit doom and gloom or look for reasons why they should not buy, so the stories of unreliability stick in their heads.
