Fun conversation. To teach music in the liberal arts tradition is to cultivate gentlemen and ladies. It's not what I aim for in my daily pedagogy, but I definitely aim for a gentleness that musicking can cultivate.

Look for "100 Sing-Along Songs for Kids" by Cedarmont Kids. It includes many of the songs in Professor Carol's book. "Wee Sing America" is good as well.

Hymnals also add a hand/eye/mind/heart/mouth coordination that is unreplicable anywhere else. It drives the songs and scriptures inside a person. The loss of them to projectors is a great evil. One that could be partially mitigated by reintroducing the musical notation back onto the projector slides.
