Samplers are a slice of time and can tell a fantastic story. We have 3 from the same family. Daughter, Mother and Grandmother dating from the late 1700's to early 1800's. Fascinating.

I used to be an antiques dealer and once bought several trunks straight out of an attic. In one of the trunks was a sampler that was as pristine as the day it was completed. All the linens and fabric items in the trunks had been carefully packed with a deep cobalt blue color tissue paper. There was no making potential buyers believe the sampler, or many other of the items, were authentic, due to the pristine condition. It was a once in a lifetime find.

I am looking for a sampler sewn by my 2xgreat grandmother, born 1842. Her name was Mirah Hickman, and I think she was around 10/11 years of age when she made it. It was given to a charity shop in the midlands around the 1980's when the husband of her granddaughter moved house, and had nowhere for it to go. I can't afford to buy it, but would love a picture. It's 'Rebecca at the Well.' Heres hoping.

Sounds like a Facebook post to me. It’s the sort of thing that people would share and you might get lucky

American girls made samplers too. Americans pay much higher prices for their own, because they're rarer.
