I am the "friend", so they're not stocks, they're stock options. so the 8 lakhs calculation is not all profit. if when I got alloted stock options, price is x rupees, when I go to sell it, price is x+20%, then my profit is 20% of the value of stock at the time. So 8 lakhs value at allotment, 2 years later if I sell and in these 2 years price is up by 25%, I will sell it for 10lakhs, profit 2 lakhs, tax 30%, so 1.6 lakhs. Understand that it is stock OPTION, not stock. Meaning it is an option for you to buy the stock at allotment price 1, 2, 3 years later, and sell it at current price at that time

ROI is phenomenal if you end up in Tier-1/2 companies. Avg fees around India for Engineering colleges is 12L for 4 years. Including an average of 50K per month of inverstmnent (food+living+travel) it comes out to be (12+0.5*48) = 36L. This much amount can be recovered in a year if you are placed in aforementioned companies.
