Thanks for sharing Mr. Tall Travels. Most Russian and Belarussian think the west is such a heaven and they are missing a big deal. I wish they would live (not just dream) in the west for a year or two to see how fast they are bitching about everything. Life in the west means working, paying bills, taxes, dealing with stress and always owing money here and there for the rest of their lives.

Yes they often think the streets are paved with gold. A lot of it is to do with the fact the ordinary Russians doesn't have much travel experience. Getting from somewhere like Siberia to anywhere in Europe is a gargantuan effort these days and expensive. I mean the UK is a pleasant country in some ways, but many people in the UK struggle like they do in Russia.

After working in a supermarket I can say that we can change the price of something on the till if its wrong. You pay the price advertised on the self. If there's nobody to check I'd get up myself and look cos if a stupid manager complains for leaving the till I just say what do you expect when there's no staff to help. Most of the time I'd just change the price anyway cos who cares, it's not my money and these big companies just rip us off anyway. The supermarket I worked at had barely any staff but 8 managers. Sometimes there would be 3 staff members and 3 managers yet none of them could manage 🤣

In terms of cost of living, one should factor in whether you can stay "for free" whilst being in the UK, for instance by owning property and having a real 'home base' that can be used whenever wanted, or not. Accommodation prices in the UK are ridiculous. Bath hotels must be pricy as well I guess.
@TallTravels Жыл бұрын
Yes fortunately I am fine in that regard. If I had to pay for hotels then I'd only last a couple of days in this country 😁

The UK seems to share a lot with Canada on its downsides like the Woke crap, the weird gender stuff, the high cost of living and the health care systems. My Great Grandparents were from Lancashire so I always wanted to go there and visit “the homeland” but I wonder if I should ever bother. The landscape there is still very beautiful though. Comparing poverty between Russia and the UK is not right. In terms of relative poverty, they are both similar - But if Russian standards of poverty were applied to the UK, everyone would be seen as extremely wealthy, whereas if British standards were applied to Russia. 95% of Russia would be impoverished.
@TallTravels Жыл бұрын
Yes I mean Russia is a huge country and there is a lot of poverty. The affluent Russians live mostly in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
@gerteer3832 Жыл бұрын
Standards are relative too! most people in Russia own housing-a lot of people have cars-plots outside the city (dacha)-and this is not considered a very high standard of living---of course there are many problems, especially in remote areas where there is simply nowhere to work-everything is relative!

Why would you care about Indian families. Remember that India could have been something else if UK would have never colonized it. So I see it just as people looking for better places to work and a lot of them who come to Latvia are way more better educated than the random person on the street. People love their food, they are positive people with a rich culture. Of course on the other hand I get you, back in the day when you were a kid, probably you would see a lot less foreigners. Then again, UK, you always had foreigners. It is a thing to deal with if you also dealt with slavery, colonies and what not. True about women though, Eastern European women are something.
