This is true. With the reel mower you have to mow a second time making a cross cut pattern .

I tested one and looked closely, and if the length of the plant is longer than the diameter of the spinning blades it will only flatten it and roll over it.

Yeah, it does simply flatten and not cut longer grass, and after a day or 2 it pops back up and doesn't look like you mowed.

yes usually the front roller pushes down long grass and plants, then the blade will glide or skip over the top, one thing that can help is cut more frequently or change out a front smooth roller for a wiehle roller

Ya gotta mow every 2 or 3 days with that type of mower! If ya wait then it just gets too thick and it won't work as intended. Also, a pre/post emergent will take care of the weeds!

Sharpening the blades definitely won't hurt but usually will those types of mowers even the ones that are runoff belt power they don't cut long pieces like that very well. Run over your lawn with a power mower and then every couple days hit it with your reel mower and it'll be just fine

Yeah, will do. My gas mower broke down, so I started using the push reel one. Definitely going to get the power mower running again and will use both alternately.

Fantastic! Then you can identify exactly where those darn dandelions are and go back to pull them. With a gas mower, they may cut the weeds, but they are the first to pop up. What looks worse?

The only problem with this classic push reel mower is that it doesn’t cut down the tall grasses, but the short ones.

Very true, the blades need sharpening, however it still cuts grass fine until it reaches a certain height, then it just stops cutting and just pushes it down.

Dandelions are a sign of a healthy lawn. Pick the dandelions and eat them as a salad, make jelly, make tea..etc. dandelions are very healthy for you and your lawn
