What i feed my kakariki Alfie in a day

I'm saying this as a fellow owner of many Kakariki, PLEASE get him a larger cage and better perches. Kakarikis love to climb the bars of their cages and hop all over, please get him a bigger, wider cage. They need wooden perches, calcium perches and a concrete perch to help keep their long claws in check. Your poor guy will develop bumblefoot with the ones you have. Your cage looks cute but it really is not ideal for a Kakariki, let alone any parakeet bigger than a budgie.

My boi doesn't like carrot, or cucumber so much... Give him the grape and he'll hold it happily munching away... Blackberry one of his faves, Blueberry's, raspberries, the seeds off of strawberries and salad greens or flower's... Loves to munch... Seeds too of course. Found he absolutely loved watermelon too...

Omg 😃 I got a kakariki yesterday as a early Christmas present I've always wanted a bird 🐦 and I know i should leave him and not touch him for a few weeks but I accidentally broke that rule I couldn't resist bit now he is verry calm and tame I would say he is always coming up to me and coming on my finger to perch also I was worried about not giving right food but as I see at 1:45 I have exact same food for him I have ordered 5 packs so I can just always have spare 👍 he js big cage not a circle because apparently it isn't best option for a bird. I know what to give him and what not to I think his fave is apple he won't sleep untill he eats all of it 😂😂 so I only give him a tiny bit before bed...I always talk with him (I whistle and he tries to copy or talks back) he is only 5 months old and is super colourfull... Btw if u want the food at 1:25 it is very good and is not expensive I hope he does great in future but ima keep him in the cage for a couple of weeks until he fully trust me... First day he was eating out of my hand and in hil water place he was bathing in his drinking water so I had to change it 😂

Things missing from this bird's diet (in the video, at least) are fresh legumes and leafy greens. There should be stuff like spinach, bok coy, chard, rocket, milk thistle, coriander and seeding grasses available every day, since this is a very large part of their diet in the wild and they contain essential beta carotenes, vitamins and calcium for healthy feathers, eyes and bones. Fresh sugar-snap peas, snow peas, garden peas and field peas are high in protein, vitamins and minerals too and are much lower in fat and sodium than dry seed. A little hard-boiled/scrambled egg for animal protein is also helpful, since kakarikis are omnivorous and benefit from a little bit now and then. Fresh pepper/capsicum seeds are also a winner and a very healthy option for your bird whenever you use them in your cooking.

What weight should he be? I just got mine. He is a red crowned kakiriki. He was just about to fledge... so I’m offering water, seed mix, crumbly mix wet and dry... plus syringe feeding to top his crop. He hates it but I don’t want him to lose weight. When I got him he was 78g After feeds he’s up to 85g... I weigh before and after feeds. I assume that once fledged a young bird will lose a few grams as they learn to feed themselves with a little less help from parents?

A male or female is both a good choice. But if you decide to have 2 of them, you may have 2 males. 2 females often fight. A male and a female fight 50% of the time and you may have a chance of descending. 2 males don’t fight that much. It’s rare for them to fight with one another

BobaMilk you can try to make her get used to you. You can do that by using seeds that she likes. Take a seed and let her take it out of your hand. After some days she will slowly get used to you. But sometimes I get bitten when I touch him I'm trying to tame him but he doesn't step up on my hands I've tried so many times but sometimes he flies away and sometimes he just sits and watches my hand and I did have a treat in my hand but he still doesn't step up, he does let me come really close to him. I have him for 1 week and 5 days he talks, eats from my hand and isn't scared of me. is there anything else that I can do to make him step up?
