I have EBT also and I try to use what I get at the food bank and EBT and not spend any extra $$. Most months it works out. Every thing helps.

You sure got a lot on your budget & your kids will be eating real good and be the happiest kids on the block 😋 my favorite economic kids snack right now to beat inflation is popcorn kernels. You can just pour a little bit into a brown paper bag and microwave a few minutes and make a huge batch in under 5 minutes. Maybe 1 container of corn kernels makes 100 bags of popcorn but I could be exaggerating. Can dress it up 1000 different ways with different spices to make it savory or sweet, add some salt, pepper, chili powder, nuts, pretzels, chips, raisins, trail mixes, fruit snacks, cereals, or candies, and melt on some coconut oil or butter mmmm... the popcorn really stretches out the other snack ingredients!

OMG so much processed foods. Cook from scratch. It's so much healthier and in the long run it turns out to be cheaper. All the Gatorade is loaded with dyes. It's so easy to make at home without all extra chemicals. Water, redmond real salt, raw honey or maple syrup and some lemon. Pick one day a week to meal prep for the week.

Please utilize the food pantries so you can save your cash for Bills and other needs. They give you a box according to your family size and it really helps. Once they get to know you they will add things to your box. They usually have a lot of meat and fresh fruit

I have a wonderful food bank in My community, but I cannot get to it because I work during the hours that they are open. If I could get to it, I would do exactly as you say and I could save so much money.

Food pantries are usually a joke. They give you dented up cans, some on their way out veggies, a dollar tree milk and some long expired candy from the holidays months before

Where do you live & how many people & their ages are in your family? Do you also go to food pantries?
@livinwithlotus

Hi, @kaythegardener I'm a mother of 4. No, I don't go to food pantries. I am unsure of the locations of food pantries in the Miami area, and also, I work during business hours. So I wouldn't be able to go to one unless it's on the weekend. My youngest is 5and the oldest is 13.

You would save money by doing meals from scratch that's not a criticism but Its a fact , Frozen veg is actually much fresher her than the veg on the shelves , I live in the UK so our meals do differ , How often are food stamps given ,

In the USA food stamps are called SNAP. And the cards are automatically loaded at midnight the day you receive them MONTHLY. And is used just like a debit card. Their is a few rules for just food. No tobacco, spirits, no hot meals( like deli fast food, cold food fine not hot) and no non food items like soap, trash bags paper ect. The children side of card allowes diapers and baby products. You have a separate account for it on the same card.

@livinwithlotus

It depends on the items, but about 3 weeks to a month. For example, if all the kids get a fruit cup for snack, then that particular fruit cup would be gone because it's only 4 in a pack

Healthy foods are cheaper than processed. Rice, beans, oatmeal, carrots, bananas, potatoes, chicken, lentils, even apples are cheaper. I can hand pick an apple and pay $1 to $1.50 for it. A candy bar costs more than that. The problem is people fill up on chips, ice cream, cookies all items that don't fill you up just make you hungry with all the excess carbs.

Hi, there's no real food in your grocery haul, too many sugar and processed food. No dried beens, dried chickpeas and lentils, fruit and vegetables in their natural state, couscous, for example. If you are worried about the fact that you don't have time to cook beans, chickpeas and dried lentils then there is no problem, just prepare everything in one day and then put them in the freezer already portioned for the whole week, buy this type of food would save you a lot of money and you would also eat more and healthier. love
