I have never participated in the Angel Tree through Salvation Army, but I do however pick out a couple families that are going through an especially hard time, either through sickness or job loss. I start shopping right after Christmas every year...that's a great time also to pick up things on sale of course. My family knows my husband and I do this, so their ears are always open to a family in need, either through their Church, or work. I have a tree that stays up all year in a spare dining room...we gather gifts through the year, put them under the tree, and there is Always someone in need of those gifts. There is nothing even close to the joy of giving to a hurting family, in my opinion, Thank you for what you do. God Bless you.

I applied for Angel Tree this year and in the application they didn't let me write in anything except one most needed item. They had two very limited drop down lists to choose from for two items and a third drop down list for a "favorite theme" which I'm guessing would include makeup for teens. I'm guessing that's why their lists were very similar. I'm sure they'll really appreciate all the extras!!

My daughter and I always participate in Angel Tree! I choose a teenager, and she has always chosen a girl her same age at the time- because she knows what she wants!

I’ve been doing 2 Angels per year for over 20 years. I always matched the ages of my own 2 kids. I usually get a mix of clothes, toys and little things too. I buy coats/gloves/hats and other clothes on Clearance in January. Then I choose my Angels based on the sizes I have from the Jan before, usually middle school aged nowadays. Then I buy the “wants” on Black Friday (online at Walmart, Target, Amazon, Children’s Place) like toys, crafts, small electronics, which I finished today! I also pick things up through the year like jewelry, chapstick, etc. Like you do. I love shopping for the Angles, probably more than my own family 😂

I just started participating again. My 8 year old daughter picked a toddler girl to buy for and my husband and I picked a family that would like family board games. I found great deals at Walmart for both families. You just sparked my couponing. I have not done so in a couple years so we are going to start doing that so we can bless more families next year. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I did the Angel tree for the local Salvation Army. I also volunteered on the days that they set up and distributed the gifts. I quit after I and all the volunteers were told to take out the gift cards and give it to the Salvation Army staff. When asked if the family was going to get them when they collected their children's gifts I was told no. That I was to replace it with other items as the Army was going to use the gift cards for running their business. I said we did not have teenage items to replace the cards and the staff instead replaced them with young child toys. I was enraged and quit. Talk about theft., I now give directly to the child/family. Something people should think about as the organizations want the gifts unwrapped.

Would not have done any good. It seems that it is common practice for organizations to use the "donated" gift cards for operating expenses. At least that is what I found out. If donors knew then these children would not receive anything. Better something than nothing which would be the case. So I do not recommend giving gift cards at all. The things you are giving would be things that are useful and fun and are not things that would be returned by their parents to the store to get things that the parents would want for themselves. Sad isn't it but this is what happens in many cases.

Amy! I’m so happy this video is on today, I have the day off and am cleaning and getting gifts together. I watched you last year and you inspired me to get tennage girls this year, I don’t know why I never thought to pick them before but I didn’t. I picked out two that wanted make-up, bath sets, sock sets, etc. you so inspired me with the video last year I e been keeping an eye out for cvs makeup kit deals I used to pass up bc. I wouldn’t use them and got an amazing robe/sock set deal from Victoria based on what you got last year! Thank you for the videos! i think little kids are what we tend to think of as easier but with all the cvs/Walmart couponing all year it actually only took me 30 mins or so to get the Rubbermaid container out and get their baskets together:)

I do Angel Tree as well, but it only goes up to age 12 in my area. I try to get the older tags, but sometimes I have to go younger. So far this year I was able to grab mostly 8-12 year old tags, and one 6 year old. Not done yet though. I buy toys on clearance all year and then match it to the tag, so it kind of just depends on who asks for what.

As I said, I’m not that familiar with the program but how to you know you will get 2 teenage girls? Are you able to request the age/sex you want? I would def like to look into this in our area. I also coupon and have a great stock pile of all kinds of stuff and we have a small store that I have a lot of extra inventory but it’s based on age.

@@frugalcampermama in my area I can go to the mall and they have a table. On the table the tags are divided by age. I just look for the teenage girl tags and pick two. I know the way that it’s done varies by region though. 😊

For a few years I gave gifts to senior citizens I picked off a angel tree at my old bank. The town I used to live in had a Christmas festival with different activities at around the town. One year the woman wanted colored pencils and a coloring book. I wanted to include a sharpener but the aunt I was living with said no. The year after that I Picked a man who wanted a dollar tree gift card and I just happened to have one that was going to be for my grandma. I gave it to the man instead. my grandma has family that can help her so I thought The man needed it more. I also picked a lady who wanted body wash. I had a lot of coupons and extra bucks to use so I used them to buy the body wash. I only paid a few cents because I added some candy so I could use all of my coupons. I didn't have much money after having fun at the festival. I brought everything back that day before I left.

Hi Kelley, in my area you can get the tag with the kid’s wishes on it at the mall, Kroger, or some churches. But I know that it varies by region. I suggest looking up the Salvation Army Facebook page for your area. They probably have the information posted there.
