Morgan finally retaliated for my bucket stealing prank. Unbeknownst to him, there was some valuable information hidden in his prank that helps me understand the stone cutting process a little better.

I truly cannot fathom being out in that cold and snow and trying to split rocks. I guess if you are from Vermont it probably isn’t that crazy cold but I’m in NC and it looks Absolutely painful to be out there, much less banging on frozen granite. You must really love what you do.

I'm from Sweden and we have the same seasons and temperatures as in Vermont. -10°C (14°F) is ok as long as you wear a thick jacket. When it goes below that then the long underwear comes out 🥶But when you're doing manual labor outside it starts feeling like a sauna after just a few minutes in those clothes so then you start taking layers off. That's probably why we can see Alfred wearing at least 4 sweaters and shirts in this video 😁

This prank war is escalating fast, by the end you're both gonna be going full blown Wile E Coyote 😆 It's great that you were able to glean something from Morgan's prank! Nowadays with our modern technology we think we've got everything figured out. It's good to be reminded that people have been dealing with many of the same problems we do today for thousands of years and sometimes came up with very simple but ingenious solutions. Look up Wally Wallington for some examples. Many of his experiments have to do with figuring out how the ancients might have shaped, shifted, and positioned huge blocks of stone to build monuments that stand today!

I do stained glass and learned not to try and cut cold sheets of glass. I would let them sit in a tub of warm water to warm them up. Otherwise they broke wrong. I don’t know if the glass became brittle or if it just changed the properties. Little bits of information to keep and share with others learning the craft.
@jhowe5571

Yes, it's in the molecular structure. The colder the molecules get, the less they move. Thus, settling closer together. That will change how they will split. All molecules move, even in objects that are solid, to our perception. Only when you can achieve absolute zero temps do you get to a point of zero movement in the molecules. And then, it's properties change in suprising ways. Temperature is very much a factor whenever we are manipulating things.

You raised some interesting questions, so I did a bit of "digging". There is a paper put out on the mechanical properties of granite under low temperatures that you may find interesting. Published in the Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering in April 2010. Didn't realize granite could get frostbite! Very "cool".

Perhaps a basic permanent or portable roof and pole structure for covered storage of stone and/or vehicle. Especially for overnight so that snow can’t settle too much on it. Just a thought Ok - now I’m at the part where you talk about the article paragraph.....please just ignore me. What an amazing coincidence though, one paragraph in a random magazine from the 1970s. That’s pretty damn cool I think 🙂❤🐿🌈 I’m thinking a return prank with similar “emotional damage” is in order. I would have been so bummed out, because for at least a few minutes, my financial worries were over - hooray. But then, to find out that it’s not real, and I’m NOT going to have half of the found cash....yup, I’d be ever so slightly disappointed. But hey, desperately looking for the “bright side” that paragraph, well that was its own little golden nugget amongst the sh1t wasn’t it.

Interesting video! My mind goes to a small greenhouse type frame covered with your cement blankets with a small wood stove inside. If it were large enough, you could even work in it, out of the weather, and move it with rebar loops above and your excavator, or build a short run of rail and load the stone on a couple of carts outside the frame and roll them in and out with a winch or truck and chain or wire rope. Just some far out thoughts. Thanks for the video! Interesting about the magazine and old article!

Uh-oh! The prank war has begun! I have a few ideas you can get back at him with, and April 1st is coming up. Just hope he doesn't read the comments.... Idea #1) Buy a rubber goose mask on ebay, orange wellies and a white lab coat. Put them on and hide in the Hoop Coop behind the mobile chicken trailer. When he comes in to release the Quacken in the morning when abs and tobs come to see whats behind the trailer and morgan comes to see what the commotion is about, jump out and shout "HONK MOTHER FUDGER!". I don't think he will be expecting that Idea #2) Buy a bear suit and wait outside his side door when he does his chores in the morning. Jump out on him when the door opens... That will waken him up a bit! Also thought about putting old bells on all his cows (secretly) and see how long it takes him to notice, but that may be difficult ; ) Apologies, I'm a bad influence lol

And Morgan reading this comment and get out from the house with some foaming pill in his mouth. When he sees the bear fall down and start foaming like in a hearth attack and Alfred shitting his pants. And a true plot twist. A real bear at the door, Morgan falls... and the bear, ... oops this is new, usually they scream and run inside. By the way, I really do not understand how this kind of prank still gets around. I remember one when a child, mentally disabled, put a knife under his armpit, and some tomato juice on his chest. Dimwit, but smart enough to pull the prank. Not smart enough to see what came. Mother dead, him in a social care house.
@MrIrondog55
@MrIrondog55 Жыл бұрын
@@ehombane Wow, this took a dark turn really quick. 2 points. 1) Abbie and Toby would bark if it was a real bear 2) To foam at the mouth you would have to have extended symptoms of heart problems. Not a carrer a farmer would do with this condition. Anyways, everyone has their own style of humour. If you dont get it, fair enough, you do you.
@ehombane
@ehombane Жыл бұрын
@@MrIrondog55 I agree, everybody has his own taste. And as a saying points, you cannot shit in someones taste. And sure too much caution leads to an insanity similar to what we see with regulation for safety nowadays. But there is a small difference though. When one chooses to play with a dangerous toys is his own decision. But the recipient of the prank did not agreed with the risk. Anyway, what prompted my comment was the scale of this type of prank I have seen coming from a latino country mostly. I assume Brazil. Man those pranks are tough. And with the barking you cancel your own prank :). But when you turn the head and see the beast, you just soil yourself instantly. You have no time to rationalize. With the foam is the same. Even in reality, may not be true, the movies used the idea too much, and will be reflex to be scared.
