Great to see high quality 16mm footage, where the story, acting and directing makes an enjoyable highly watchable product that is art. Not low contrast, light leaks and shaky hand held footage and those things together are supposed to the be the art.

Excellent work, Sir. Saw the short and then this video. Ive only taken photos in the past in celluloid but never motion picture film. I do have some Super 8s, but no roll in my country, but just ordered a K3 and some rolls and I will give it my first shot and this video really helped me understand. I also loved the movie and its look and the performances, lighting, costumes and interiors and all. The texture most of all and how it exposes the whole gradient is beautiful.

I would like to see one gear video lol not a bright video but necessary components for making it all work. I really really wanna see (and be a part) of a black indie film breakdown (shots you liked, lighting, sound).

This is great advice! The bonding you talk about on a film set really does happen in a different way than a digital set. I'm planning a short film using a Bolex regular 8mm camera and that is so unforgiving. Rehearsing, like you said, will be very important.

This is solid advice, and similar to my experience shooting on 16mm.

Man this was dope really hearing about your experiences shooting 16mm. Been thinking about getting into the format. I know it's not a cheap bridge to cross. How was the audio done? I heard its difficult to sync audio with 16mm film. Great story though!
@z.c.cunningham3 жыл бұрын
So because we had a professional camera we were able to get the constant 24fps. We simply slated every scene and used that as a visual reference to sync the sound

@@z.c.cunningham I know that made life easier, and having 100ft rolls on the Ari is a great addition for narrative films. Film is soo tempting to use! It would be dope to see another piece on 16mm if you ever get the chance to shoot it.

Are there any other things that took you by surprise when shooting film?

I’d say that film Keeps you on your toes at ALL TIMES. So it forces you to focus on being the most efficient you possibly can
