*SCORE* on the interview with Vandermeer! Congrats. The only thing I've read so far by Alix Harrow is her short story The Six Deaths of the Saint... and that was *excellent*. It's just 30 pages, and quite powerful.

"Wow, I don't hate all romantasy, I HATE BAD BOOKS" 🤣 I swear, I can so relate to that!!! I do have my favourite genres, but gimme a proficiently-written book and I'll gobble it up, no matter what the subject is! PS: Romantasy? Not my cup of tea, but I've already looked up Faebound and her previous work, The Final Strife, it's so good to find works not centred around western people and culture. Motto, motto, onegai! Thank you for your work 🙂

I love that you also name and credit translators! 5:50 Also if you like this, Yuri Herrera's "Signs preceding the end of the world" is fantastic

I'm a mood reader as well, and my November tbr is full of fantasy, too! Something about November has me in the mood for magic and fantastical worldbuilding

I reserved Faebound at the library. I'm not really into romantasy but I'm still gonna give it a try.

Looking forward to your opinion on "The Grace of Kings". I adore "The Dandelion Dynasty". The first book is sort of the prologue for the rest of the series.
@castoffcrown21 күн бұрын
I'm going to start a reread of Ken Liu's Dandelion Dynasty this month. The Grace of Kings was one of my first fantasy reads a few years ago. It still holds a huge place in my heart and the series only gets better! Keep up the great work, Willow! 💜

I just read Some Desperate Glory - I liked it but didn't love it. It was enjoyable. Look forward to your review of The Grace of Kings - I've been wondering if I should give it a go. I'm always hesitant to commit to books that want me to keep on reading a few more tomes to get through the story! Which of course is much of fantasy...

1:10 Gail Simone's Batgirl comics are great, that was a big hook for me when I first got into comics a few years ago and is part of the reason Batgirl and Barbara Gordon specifically, is my favourite comic book character. (That's where I picked my name from when I came out!) The local shop in my city closed so I fell away from them but I should go back at some point, I've lots bookmarked that I want to read

Quick correction. Gail Simone wrote the 2000s run of Secret Six (originally created by E. Nelson Bridwell & Frank Springer in the 60s). Suicide Squad was created by Robert Kanigher & Ross Andru but was modernised by John Ostrander whose run was critically acclaimed and you can read the omnibus of when it releases next year.

Picked up An Education In Malice, and Faebound fairly recently (both on offer too!) Glad you point out its not trash like ACOTAR apparently is, I was worried at first :s Also: is First Love available yet? Getting different views wherever I look for it...

Willow, have you read O Caledonia by Elspeth Barker? I would love to hear your thoughts on it. It is a very atmospheric gothic piece ,set in scotland. I think you would really enjoy it as it's tragic yet has moments of humour.

If you want to read Alix E. Harrow, try The Ten Thousand Doors of January rather than Starling House.
